- Note, these rear engine plates, as supplied, are to fit Racing International's - i.e. they do not have the cross tube and serrated washer fitted, as used on road based bikes (these can easily be welded on if you wish to do so).  We can also supply with the frame engine holes undrilled - as some frames had slight variances, so you can drill that one yourself

- These rear engine plates are to  laser cut, using original SOHC Manx engine plates as original and are to fit 1935 - 1950 M30/early Manx rigid and plunger chassis with 500cc magnesium crankcases. They will also fit if you have post 48-50 350 Manx crankcases, as Norton used 500cc magnesium crankcase for both size categories from 1948 onwards.  Email our Sales email if you are not sure which type you have if 350cc. 

- Note: It is extremely difficult to find two original Manx frames with exactly same engine lug hole positions, there are often small discrepancies.  Therefore I can also supply these engine plates with the hole for the frame mount left blank if desired. These rear engine plates are laser cut, using original SOHC Manx engine plates as an original and are to fit 1935 - 48 350cc M40/Manx chassis (both rigid and plunger frames) and magnesium 350cc racing crankcases.

The magnesium 350cc crankcase type was slightly smaller than the 500cc type, however, after 1948 the crankcase of both models was standardised on the 500 castings.  Therefore if you are not sure which type crankcase your 350 engine has, please email our Sales email

- Note: It is extremely difficult to find two original Manx frames of this era with exactly the same engine lugs, they can often vary by a small amount.  Therefore I can also supply these engine plates with the hole for the frame mount left blank if desired. These laser cut brackets can be brazed or pressed onto a tube that feeds over the Norton footrest bar if your original brackets are bent or damaged, as so many often are. They are designed to hold the distinctive kidney shaped Norton rubbers.  come as a set of 4 brackets

These lasercut kidney shaped footrest rubber brackets are of exactly the same profile as original Norton items and can be used to replace your original items if they are damaged or missing.  Originally they were fitted over a tube, and the tube punched out into the recess on each side of the central hole on the bracket, to hold them in place.  The tube with brackets attached were then fitted over the length of bar that was screwed into the Norton footrest hanger on all roadgoing models.

It is worth noting that if you are missing the entire footrest rubber assembly - we also sell that as a complete unit (pair) - see Item 0211 in the same Fabrication section.  However these plates are useful if you wish to repair an original item, or make up your own set.

This type were fitted to most roadgoing models - i.e. Side Valve, OHV and SOHC . . . but we also sell similar footrest rubber brackets with an outer lip - which were as used on some competition International models - to stop your foot slipping off - Item 0209B, or the distinctive pre-war Manx type, with a much larger upright flap Item 0210 - which were normally brazed to the pre-war type rear frame fitting footrests

These laser cut brackets can be brazed onto your original footrests, as they are often missing or damaged.

They are designed to hold the distinctive kidney shaped Norton rubbers - For roadgoing Internationals, both inner and outer used the bracket without tab, but these are a variation on that design, with a tab similar to the full blown Manx type, in that the outer ones have an ear to stop the foot coming off.

The ears are not as pronounced as the original pre-war Manx type that we also reproduce (Item 0210), but are very similar to the competition type shown in the 1948 Spare Parts Catalog, and are far more likely to pass scrutineering if you are using the bike in track parades on modern tracks - I have fitted this type to my Big Plunger for this reason - Four pieces per set

Note: 2021, I am considering having both this item and the larger full Manx type 0210 made into footrest hanger assemblies.  Email on sales@racingvincent.co.uk if you are interested in reserving a set

The last photograph shows an original Norton (SOHC) International hanger casting (which we may replicate in the future) - which may have had this type of hanger plate fitted - particularly anything with a Clubmans or competition spec.

These laser cut brackets can be brazed onto your original footrests, as they are often missing or damaged. They are designed to hold the distinctive kidney shaped Norton rubbers - these are replicated from an original SOHC Manx model and have a distinctive shape on the outer bracket with a large vertical tab to stop the foot coming off the footrest in competition.  Item consists of 4 bracket plates - 2 x normal innter type, and 2 x Manx outer type

These have been replicated from an original SOHC Manx bracket I was given many years ago - and are most probably pre-war.  If you look at some genuine period photographs of early Manx Nortons you will see them fitted with similar brackets, normally mounted on rearset photographs.

When we had these lasercut, we had them made with the same notch's  in them as normal roadgoing brackets - so they could be put onto a similar tube as the roadgoing models.  However, the last photograph shows an original pre-war Manx Norton footrest hanger - and as can be seen, there are traces of braze attached to this hanger - where originally brackets just like these would have been attached.  Therefore, if you are intending to replicate the original competition type (early Manx) footrest hangers - these are the brackets you need to make them.

This Norton footrest set consists of the Norton 'D' type rubbers, the complete tube and both 'D' shape plates, as well as the two long bolts that hold the rubber footrests in place. In fhis form the complete assembly can just be slid over the original centre footrest shaft, and then retained by the big (chamfered) end nut, as per originals.

These assemblies are of the classic Norton 'D' shaped assemblies as fitted to most Norton singles from the 1930's through to the 1950's

Couple of things to note - these are made complete by my offshore (cheap and cheerful!) company, so may not be exactly the same as my lasercut plates (which are taken from originals), but are still well made and offer very good value for money . . . I could not get them made in the UK for this amount! The other minor point to note is that these are obviously for road going Inter's - If you want the proper correct early Manx type, with the tab to stop the foot sliding off, then you need to look at the lasercut competition type plates I also supply - in origina road pattern (as these are), with a small extended tab (to stop foot slipping off) and full pre-Featherbed Manx type - which have a large tab on the outside - Items 0209, 0209B and 0210).

1930's-50's Norton Pillion Footrest Assembly (Pair)

These pillion footrest hangers and Norton embossed footrest rubbers are a good replica of the heavyweight pressed steel type fitted to Norton single models through the 1930's to 1950's - i.e. most Rigid and Plunger framed road going models.

These are made off-shore by one of the companies that make Norton single parts - but I believe they originally made many of their parts from a pattern WD16H bike (which I suspect they had in their possession) - and therefore I think the 'pressing' of these pillion footrest hangers look close to the originals.  As you can see from the photos, they are not just crudely bent - but instead have actually been pressed flat at the sides, as the originals would have looked.

Also they come fitted with the very nice 'Norton' embossed footrest rubbers, and together represent very good value for money.  (note: we also sell the same rubbers seperately, should you wear this set out - see the other items lstings in this same section).

They are lightly painted in black paint by the manufacturer - but as you can see, this is just to prevent from rust in storage, and will have chipped and scratched in transit - so I would recommend priming and re-painting before fitting.

As you can see - I have included a picture taken from the 1948 Norton Spare Parts List - which shows the same type of pillion hanger listed.  Next to it is the pillion mount lug - which is of the 'rounded' cast type, as fitted to plunger road frames with pillion footrests.  For Rigid frames - the mounting lug was actually part of the  rear frame bottom tube.

Note: if you have a later swinging arm (or Featherbed) Norton single - then those pillion assemblies were of a different design, and these hangers will not fit those later models.  I have shown a photo of the later lug fitted to swinging arm models - which instead used a cast hanger with central tongue to fit the lug in the picture.

Final point:  I may get round to manufacturing the hex head through bolt and nut (in stainless steel) for these at some point in the future (a long list of other stuff first).  Email us at sales@raingvincent.co.uk if interested in a pair

Nice copy of the pillion footrest rubber - as shown in the 1948 Norton Spares catalog . . . which are of the correct type used in conjunction with the pressed steel footrest hangers which were used by Norton's on all Rigid and Plunger framed models of the 1930's/40's/50's.

These ones are also embossed with 'Norton' on them (shown very faintly in the 1955 catalog as being correct), which looks good
