Norton Main Tank Transfer - Black (All models: Late 1920's - 1960's)

This is the standard 'Norton' motif in black (with Reg'd Trade Mark in small lettering underneath) fitted to almost all painted/lined Norton petrol tanks, from the late 1920's - early 1960's.  They are of the highest quality, do not shrink or crack and are the same ones I have used on my own tanks for the last 30 years

You may see some photographs on the internet of single cylinder Norton's with different size transfers - but these are the correct ones - both in size, colour and style.

Note that the backing paper colour can sometimes vary from the photograph by batch (either an off white or darker bluish are the most common) - but the transfers themselves will always be the same. (our latest batch have a slightly darker blue backing paper than previous batchs)

Fitting:  All transfers are supplied with fitting instructions, but an important point to remember when fitting transfers - do not paint or lacquer over them until they have thoroughly dried.  To be safe - I always leave at least one week after fitting before I then lacquer over them.  Failure to do so can result in the transfer crinkling slightly - as the adhesive under the transfer has not had time to fully harden to the underlying paintwork

Norton Main Tank Transfer - Black (Flat Tank Models 1910 to Late 1920's) - Each

This is the 'Norton' motif in black as fitted to the side of early Flat Tank Norton models (notice it was before they put 'Norton Reqd Trademark' under it)nderneath).

Similar in size to the later tank transfers - but with a more 'scrolled' look to the letters - this is a lovely period transfer and the correct transfer for earlier flat tank models.

I am not entirely sure what years this type of transfer was fitted - but I would estimate it would have been the standard from approximately 1912 to approximately 1927/28  (but I dont think anyone would blame you if you have a slightly later bike and just like the look of this transfer!).

If you look at the accompanying photos, you will see 3 archive photographs of original bikes that look to use this style of transfer - the first being a Norton BRS (belt drive) model of approximately 1914.  Second photo is of Bert Denly at Brooklands on an OHV flat tank model, approximately 1923-24 and final photograph of Alec Bennett on what I believe was the first year of the Walter Moore CS1, this being 1927.  Although difficult to be sure - this last photo still looks to be using the old style transfer, although I would imagined it changed to the later type (our Item 0114 transfer) very shortly after this time

- Small but very smart Norton transfer that is placed on the top of the Norton tanks. Used on SOHC and pushrod tanks. - On SOHC tanks, particularly those with chinpads I find they look better placed ahead of the filler cap, but on pushrod tanks and SOHC

- Slightly larger than the tank top transfer, this rear mudguard transfer adds the final touch to your restoration. - Not entirely sure when/to these were fitted, but I have them on both my 1930's bikes and also on my 1950's DOHC Manx and they look very n

Norton Steering Head - Gold and Blue

Product no.: 0118 TRN/05

£7.40

- I believe these were fitted mainly to very early Nortons (particularly flat-tank bikes) so are not strictly correct for SOHC Nortons, however, on occasion I have fitted them anyway, as they look so pretty and only the real purist would object! - Fitted

Norton Sidecar Transfer - 1920's (and Possible Steering Head) - Gold and Red

Product no.: 0119 TRN/06

In stock

£11.00
Recommended Retail Price, plus delivery

This transfer design is possibly one of the most rarely seen fitted - it being the type fitted to the door of the Norton sidecar of the 1920's.

However, they may also have been fitted to the frame headstock - as they are similar in style to the Blue 16H engine design (our Item 0118) that was fitted to the Headstock on earlier models,  and would certainly look a nice focal point on a pre-war Solo bike. As you can see from the photograph of the transfer - the design shows a wing coloured mainly red, around an early engine, with the Norton logo underneath.  It would like pretty on the side of any period sidecar, but also - would be a nice addition on any steering head, mudguard or toolbox of a period bike (FYI although not strictly correct - I have affixed one of the 0118 Steering Head transfers to one of my late 1930's Gardengate machines - I think at Steering Head logo is a nice addition on any pre 60's restoration!).

This transfer is of the non-Waterslide type - which is why the photograph in this listing does not show the final finish of the transfer - as supplied, the front of the transfer is attached to a fine tracing type paper - once the rear of the transfer is wetted (which has glue on it), it must be placed exactly in place (i.e. it cannot be slid once affixed), then allowed to dry, before carefully peeling off the front tissue paper to reveal the final finished transfer.  This was how most original transfers used to be affixed.

the final photograph shows one of my own family pictures (see our www.RacingVincent.co.uk Blog page for more detail) -  this being one of my Great Uncles visiting my Great Grandmother/Grandfather on a 1920s Big 4 Norton outfit with Norton sidecar attached - and the same transfer can just be seen on the sidecar door!

Douglas Main Tank Transfer - White (Early Flat Tank Models - including 2 3/4hp and 4hp) - Each

Product no.: 1082 TRN/08

In stock

£7.90
Recommended Retail Price, plus delivery

This is the main tank transfer fitted to most Douglas flat tank models - from approximately 1912 through to the early 1920's. The letters are white/ivory in colour, with a black surround.

The length of the transfer is approximately 4.5" long and the height is approximately 7/8" of the letters (although approximately 1" deep when taking into account the high 'L' and low 'G'.

When I was restoring my own Douglas 2 3/4hp model - which had a 1919/20 petrol tank, still with the original paintwork on lining on it (see accompanyning photographs) - I needed to sympathetcially restore the original Douglas lettering, and found these transfers to be almost identical to the original font.  I used a pair of these to assist with that sympathetic restoration of that tank - but also have the same transfers reserved for a spare 1920 style tank I have, and a second earlier Douglas tank I have of 1912 vintage.

I am not an expert on the different Douglas models - but I believe this transfer may have continued to be used on most flat tank models and into the 1930's - but you if you have a model from those periods - you will need to satisfy yourself they are correct for your model.

As with all our transfers - these come from a well established UK transfer manufacturer, are of the Waterslide type, and all our transfers come with instructions for fitting
