Chronometric speedometer or rev clock Needle - later type with a rectangular shape on the opposite end to the needle. Nicely made in brass with central boss.
It is difficult to be conclusive - but this type with the rectangular end to the needle looks to have followed on from the earlier peardrop ended needle, and seems normally to be fitted to chronometric instruments from the early/mid 1950's onwards. However, I have also seen this rectanguar type sometimes fitted to earlier clocks - normally rev clocks.
We also sell the earlier needle type with peardrop shaped end, which is normally seen fitted to pre-war Smiths clocks to the early 1950's (see Item 0643).
Very useful if you have have an instrument with damaged or missing needle
