This listing is for a high quality reproduction of the 'lipped' and chromed Inlet Ring and distinctive shaped bolt that were fitted to Amal 276 Stub fitting carburettors, and locked the carburettor to the inllet stub.
We offer this inlet ring in two sizes - this being the smaller size (See Item 1174 for the larger size) -
The inner bore of this ring (the main bore, not the lipped ring) is 1 5/16" - i.e. it will fit over a carb where the outer diameter of the inlet stub is 1.312"/33.3mm
These rings are UK manufactured to a very high quality for us - made from brass as per the original pattern, then chromed. The design is as per the original - with an inner lip that fits into a correspoinding lip on the carburettor body. The specially shaped (shouldered) bolt is CNC machined by us to the original disttinctive shape in stainless steel, then the end is polished - so that too looks like it is chromed. The head of the bolt is milled to the correct imperial spanner size of 1/8" Whit (we mill this head, as it is becoming increasingly difficult to obtain it in stainless steel), which gives a very crisp finish - important, as it is often this hex head that suffers on original carbs - as they are often overtightened with use. As a final design point - we have also replicated the opposite threaded end on these small bolts - which was rounded, as it protruded from the threaded end of the ring - presumably to avoid it catching on cloth's when the owner cleaned the bike.
These rings and bolts are often damaged and have lost their chrome on original bikes, with the bolt head often chewed - and as they are in a prominent and visible position on the bike - replcement with this item can transform the cosmetic look in that area - as well as allowing the carburettor to be properly tightened to the inlet stub!
Model Fitting: I cannot be sure which Models were fitted with the Type 76/276 Amal that required the 1 5/16" bore ring listed in this tiem - but suspect it was likely to be the late 1920's to the mid 30's Side Valve models (and I am not sure - but this ring type may also fit earlier Amac/Amal carbs - email if you require more dimensions). I do know that it was normal practic to fit Side Valve models with a 1" internal bore carb, and OHV models with a 1 1/16" bore carb. The carb in the photo is a late 1940's Amal 276 from an OHV Norton - and that reqiuires the larger 1 7/16" diameter ring (item 1174) - but the smaller ring shown in this listing would fit carbs of exactly the same design - just a slightly smaller (1 5/16") - so please check the outer diameter of your carb stub before ordering
