High quality reproduction 80mm Chronnometric Speedometer Clock Case (with an illumination hole and threaded bulb insert), of the type with a hole at the side of the case for the Tripmeter reset

This is a good quality UK manufactured case in unpainted condition, it even having the familiar spider web logo stamped in the back that original Smiths rev clock bodies had.

This case is of the type fitted to Smiths 80mm speedometers, fitted with a brass threaded insert for the illumination light (note: light bulb fitting not included), but also - the type where the odometer tripmeter reset needle came out of the side of the speedometer case - therefore has a hole in the side of the case for this purpose.

However, if are looking for the same speedometer body - but with provision for the trip reset to come out of the bottom of the case, we sell that also - see Item 1023

For Norton owners:  As I have shown in the photographs, although there does not seem to be any general rules - I believe it was more common to find the trip reset coming out of the side of the case (as this case does) on earlier (pre-War) bikes fitted with girder forks. In addition, it was not unusual to find the similar type speedometer fitted to cars of 1930s era, where the trip reset would then feed under the dashboard. These photographs show an early Smiths 120 MPH (Norton International) speedo, and an even earlier Jaeger (who I think shared the design with Smiths), which has a side trip reset.
