This product listing is for an excellent quality modern 'Solid State' dynamo regulator which can be used to replace original 'insides' of the notoriously unreliable Lucas 33018a type mechanical regulator, fitted to most Norton single roadgoing models both pre and post war.  The Lucas regulator was fitted to Norton's in conjunction with the Lucas E3 type Dynamo.  Likewise, this modern solid state regulator is also a suitable replacement for the (even more unreliable!) Miller type regulator, as fitted to Vincent models postwar for regulating the Miller D6 dynamo.

'Solid State' means it is totally sealed with no moving parts and using modern reliable semi-conductors which can handle up to 100w at 6volt and even more for the 12 volt version (providing of course your dynamo is capable of providing that power!).  This particular dynamo regulator is manufactured by Tab-Tec and is well known and trusted. You can either fit it somewhere where it is not easily visible - or as I am using it on my Vincent 500 - I have removed the 'guts' of the original Vincent Miller regulator from its case and have fitted it in there - see accompanying photographs.  I will also be doing the same thing when I come to fit one to my 1937 roadgoing Norton International - I will remove the innards of a Lucas 33018a regulator and place it in there (just like the one in the photograph).

The other good bit of news about this type of regulator is that it can be fitted to both 6 volt and 12 volt systems.  Originally Norton and Vincent were both fitted with 6volt systems, but if you have subsequently fitted a 12 volt system to your bike, this will still work - it just requires one of the 4 wires is not used, covered in the instructions

Note:  This particular type of V-Reg-2a regulator is a NEGATIVE EARTH polarity version - negative earth being the normal wiring method for nearly all Norton singles and Vincent version C motorcycles.  It is important that you check your wiring harness is Negative earth, as this regulator will not work on Positive Earth and will be damaged if wired incorrectly.  If you do require a Positive Earth version, I can supply these to special order.

As a final point, when fitting mine I sheathed the wires in black pvc sheathing (as can be seen in the photograph of the miller regulator), as most wiring harness's on our bikes would have - so I have included a similar length of pvc sheathing with every unit - you might not get this if purchased from other suppliers!  

The unit comes with full instructions and guarantee from my supplier and is an excellent and reliable replacement for the crappy old originals!

NGK B6ES Spark Plug to fit all Norton road going single engines, i.e. Model 30/40, OHV ES2/Mod 18/Mod19 and SV 16H/Big4.  It also fits Vincent 500cc and 1000cc models (Series B/C/D).  

I use NGK spark plugs on all my bikes now, I have found them to be the best of all modern plugs for quality and reliability.  The B6ES is equivelant to a Champion N5 and is the 'normal' roadgoing fitment for Norton singles and Vincent models.  The other common fitment for these engines was the B7ES (Champion equivelant N4) which is a slightly harder plug and may be more suitable if you prefer harder/hotter running.  I tend to keep at least one of each in my tool roll on road bikes, as spares - we sell the B7ES grade as well - Item no 0576

I use NGK spark plugs on all my bikes now, I have found them to be the best of all modern plugs for quality and reliability.  The B7ES is equivelant to a Champion N4 and is an alternative to the slightly softer B6ES (item number 0575). You may find your engine runs slighlty better on this grade of plug if you often run at high speeds or your engine runs hot, as this is a slightly harder (colder) plug.

Genuine Lucas B38-6 (Large Rubber Style) Battery Box - PU7D

This is a genuine Lucas - empty battery box of the large rubber (B38-6) type - which is the type of 6v battery originally fitted to a number of british bikes of the 40's/50's/60's - including both Norton and Vincent singles.  It was also not unusual to fit this type of battery to Norton singles of the 1930's, as a replacement for earlier T-Shape batteries which were discontinued after WWII.

This empty battery box is a modern (hard rubber) replica of the original Lucas type (but still manfactured by Lucas), but does not have any battery inside it - instead it is ready to take a modern 'gell cell' battery.  In the 3rd and 4th photograph I show one of those modern dry cell batteries (not included) - which will fit snugly in the case.  

Its dimensions are as follows:

Internal Dimensions:

Internal drop (i.e how high from base to lip of main case body): 133mm. Internal width x depth : 104mm x 76.5mm.

External Dimensions:

External dimensions (which should be standard battery case size for this type of original 6V Battery, as fitted to most 1930’s – mid 50’s Norton singles : 160mm Height x 115mm width x 89.5mm depth.

Update 2022: note that Lucas are now changing the colour of their packaging over to red - see last photograph.  Therefore some deliveries are still with the green box, but may also be the red type.  Contents for both are identical

Front Number plate, painted with a black finish.

This number plate has a sporty rake on on one side (which would be facing the rear of the bike.  However - if you prefer the symetric shape that was adoped on some bikes (i.e. the Vincent used a symetric front number plate commonly), then it is a simple job to copy the shape of the other end onto a cardboard template and then use this as a template to help cut away the 'rake' part on the other end, leaving a symetric style plate.  I have done this with one of these plates when fitting one to my Vincent Comet restoration

Tufnol spacer flange to fit between cylinder head and 'flange' type carburettors - i.e. Amal TT/RN, Monobloc and Concentric carbs.  This listing is for a 32mm bore spacer, 6mm wide.  

These 6mm thick tufnol type spacer flanges were a common fitment on many models fitted with Amal flange fitting carbs.  We also provide two smaller sizes.

This larger bore is 32mm - which equates to approximately 1 1/4" in imperial size.  I know these were a size used on later Vincent Black Lightning carbs and probably other sports/racing bikes in the 1950's-1960's

These spacers are 2.00" between stud centres.

This is for a throttle needle to fit original Amal Type 29 and 89 (Pre-War) and Type 289 carburettors - i.e. the type with seperate floatchamber, a slighlty bigger version of the 276.  These were fitted to a number of marques in the 30's - 50's, most notably Vincent singles and twins,  up until the end of 1954,  i.e pre-Monobloc.

I am not sure if the Type 29/89 or 289 were fitted to any Norton models (it was more normal for Norton road models to be fitted wtih either the 76 or 276 Amal carb), but they may have been - just check the number stamped on the flange of the carb.

They were commonly fitted to Vincent models as well as many other British marques
