- Manufactured in high quality stainless steel, these items have very fined slots along their length along oil to pass through but trapping any swarth or debris - Screws into the base of the timing case on all post 1931 SOHC engines - Not easy to manufacture, which I'm afraid is reflected in the price, but they do look really nice

SOHC Crankcase Feed/Return Oil Pipe Union

Product no.: 0246 A11/721

These are the unions that screw into the crankcase behind the timing chamber - it is the smaller 1/4" BSP side that screws into the crankcase, the larger side is 3/8" BSP and takes the distinctive large oil pipes fitted to Norton Internationals.

Crankcase Oil Pipe Union - AF

Product no.: 0246b A11/721-AF

This is the Union that fits into International and SOHC Manx crankcases for both Feed and Return. It allows for the standard 3/8" BSP SOHC Norton oil pipes to be connected. It is very close to original but is a modern item, and uses a larger spanner hex, requiring a UNF spanner. This is a cheaper alternative to the original brass union that I have made specially (Item no 0246), but as you only need to screw it in once this is not really an issue - item is still high quality and is cadmium plated. - Price is per each

Crankcase Breather - Fibre Washer

Product no.: 0249 A11/719FW

Surprisingly it is very difficult to find good quality vulcanised (red fibre) washers to fit 1/4"BSP fittings. These red fibre washers are of the highest quality (from a specialist manufacturer) and have just the right external diameter - but are a very tight fit on the thread. To fit them I place the breather (or similar 1/4" BSP fitting) in soft jaw vice, then place these washers just onto the thread - then I carefully use a pair of large pliers (the circular hole with coarse teeth) to carefully wind them onto the thread. Although this is difficult - the result is the correct size washer that does not look out of place under a Norton breather (unlike many modern ones that are far too wide and look out of place). These are high quality washers from a top manufacturer - sold in pack of 5. Note: do not buy if you are worried you might not be able to fit them!!

Oil Tank Union (without gauze)

Product no.: 0248d A11\292
This is the oil tank union fitted to many International\Manx oil tanks with the larger 3\8" BSP fitting on both sides (crankcase unions were smaller on the crankcase side). Please note - these do not have gauze filters fitted, which the 'Feed' side union would have had originally (I might make some of these in the future). Gauze can easily be added in by soft soldering.

Cylinder Feed Lubrication Bolt

Product no.: 0316 A11/38
This is the multi-stepped crankcase bolt that is drilled through it centre to feed oil to the back of the crankcase wall, as well as providing a means to meter the feed of oil to the cambox, in conjunction with item A11/41 , sold seperately. This item is CNC machined out of Stainless Steel, it being copied exactly from an original bolt. Note: there have been slight variations in crankcase designs over the years. This part should fit most International and SOHC Manx type crankcases, but very early crankcases did have a smaller diameter on the bore closest to the lipped nut (the bolt can have its shoulder turned down to fit though). This type of early crankcase did not have such a pronounced counterbore at the back of the crankcase either, so length of this bolt may be nominal for that very early crankcase. If you are not sure, then email me for details first, I will be glad to help

SOHC Inner Timing Cover - Aluminium : No Breather Hole

Product no.: 0318a A11/7
This is an aluminium timing cover to fit SOHC Norton International, CS1 and pre-Featherbed Manx Norton engines - that were originally fitted without a breather hole (see also item 0318b for covers with breather holes). As with all parts we produce, these castings have been maufactured to be as close as possible to the shape and look of the original castings, and even have the original casting number, in the same position as per original. The patternmakers I use are excellent, and if I say so myself, the castings are virtually identical in shape and contour to an original - including the inner face and boss. They come with the oil pump drive bearing already pressed in and reamed, and this phosphur bronze bearing has the correct spiral turned oil groove running through it, which stops just before it reach's the outer face - a feature often overlooked, which if allowed to run all the way through, can result in excessive oil being fed into the magneto chain well. It is manufactured in LM25TF Aluminium. It should be noted that when ordering an Aluminium timing cover, these came in two standard types: Very early and very late covers were devoid of a breather hole (as per all magnesium timng covers), but for a period around the mid 30's to late 1940's (I think!), they had a breathing hole at the upper part of the bevel chamber. This listing is for an aluminium timing cover WITHOUT breather hole. Aluminium covers are supplied with the visible areas polished (but due to the intricate shape, I have refrained from obtaining an overpolished mirror finish, to avoid the increased risk of damaging the machined faces). Note: After initial machining of this batch of timing covers it was found that with the variation in different original outer covers over the years, somes did not line up well. Therefore, the top threaded hole of the covers was bored out to take an oversize threaded insert, and then the 1/4 BSW" thread hole re-machined in a slightly different position, to make the fit more 'generic'. This insert has been expertly applied and is virtually invisible. It in no-way reduces strengh (in fact it makes the thread stronger, as it is of a higher tensile strength than the original casting material!), but it is mentioned for completeness. The final photograph in this item shows an Inner Timing Cover, matched with an Outer Timing Cover - Sold Seperately

SOHC Inner Timing Cover - Aluminium : With Breather Hole

Product no.: 0318b A11/7b
This is an aluminium timing cover to fit SOHC Norton International, CS1 and pre-Featherbed Manx Norton engines, of the type originally fitted with a breather hole. As standard the inner timing cases have been machined without the breather hole. However, I include a picture of an original timing cover inset to the main cover, that has this additional breather hole. If this catalog item is ordered then I have a jig to ensure the hole is machined into the correct position. If ordering this version of the Inner Timing Cover please bear in mind there may be a two week delay to allow for the cover to have the additional hole machined. This item is for a timing case WITH breather hole. Note - when ordering this item, there may be a delay of two weeks, to allow me to machine the additional breather hole into the cover. Aluminium covers are supplied with the visible areas polished (but due to the intricate shape, I have refrained from obtaining an overpolished mirror finish, to avoid the increased risk of damaging the machined faces). SOHC Inner Timing Cover - Magnesium

Product no.: 0318c A11M/7
This is a magnesium timing cover to fit SOHC M30/M40 Norton Racing Internationals (pre-war) and pre-Featherbed Manx Norton engines. In the second photograph here, you can see an original casting (upper) compared to my version (lower), which demonstrates how close to identical they are. It is manufactured in A8 Magnesium Alloy and is substantially lighter than the normal LM25TF aluminium version. Magnesium inner timing covers are supplied fully chromated (covers are re-chromated after machining to ensure ALL surfaces are protected) - the black chemical finish that protects the base magnesium from corrosion, a necessary precaution as this alloy suffers from oxidisation if left exposed to the atmosphere. They are also lightly sprayed in water repelling (Duck) oil before being placed in sealed bags, to further protect them from condensation in storage, which explains the 'wet' look in the photographs. Which model specification would these have originally been fitted to? - These would have been fitted to any SOHC Norton fitted with magnesium (M30/40 or Manx) crankcase. They would have also been fitted to early pre-Featherbed type DOHC Manx engines. Normal production M30/Manx specification was to magnesium crankcase, magnesium Inner timing cover and aluminium outer cover - however some Works and Works supported engines were fitted with magnesium outer covers (which I can also supply). However these inner covers can also be fitted to aluminium International crankcases if required as the casting is the same (as per my Racing International). Note: there was only one variety of magnesium cover supplied - the type with no breather hole. However, if you wish to fit a magnesium cover to an International engine originally fitted with a cover with breather, then email us and we can provide this service separately. Final Note: After initial machining of this batch of timing covers it was found that with the variation in different original outer covers over the years, somes did not line up well. Therefore, the top threaded hole of the covers was bored out to take an oversize threaded insert, and then the 1/4 BSW" thread hole re-machined in a slightly different position, to make the fit more 'generic'. This insert has been expertly applied and is virtually invisible. It in no-way reduces strengh (in fact it makes the thread stronger, as it is of a higher tensile strength than the original casting material!), but it is mentioned for completeness

SOHC Plain Outer Timing Cover - With Rev Clock Boss (Aluminium)

Product no.: 0319 A11M/9

This is the 'Plain' type SOHC outer timing cover fitted to Norton International and Manx models from 1938 onwards. This version is the sports\racing version that has a rev clock boss cast in (generally considered the most desirable type). This type was fitted as standard on pre-featherbed Manx Nortons, but was often seen fitted to Norton Internationals, if wanting to fit a rev clock. These versions have been faithfully replicated from an original pattrn, even including the original casting number and inner webbing. They have then been CNC machined and for the aluminium versions they are bright polished and ready to fit. 3\16" BSF screws should be used for the rev clock fitting.

SOHC Ribbed Outer Timing Cover - With Rev Clock Boss (Aluminium)

Product no.: 0321 1X04(R)
This is the 'Ribbed' type SOHC outer timing cover fitted to Norton International and Racing International (early Manx) models up to 1938. This version is the sports\racing version that has a rev clock boss cast in, which were available even in those early days, but as rev clocks were only just starting to be used in the mid 1930's these covers were only made in very small numbers and are now very rare and highly desirable. I am very fortunate to have a friend who has one of these original covers and was able to lend me it so we could have patterns made to produce this exact copy. Please note: these are slightly more expensive than the plain covers, as the casting costs are more expensive with these patterns 05/12: These versions have been faithfully replicated from an original pattrn, even including the original casting number and inner webbing. They have then been CNC machined and for the aluminium versions they are bright polished and ready to fit. 3\16" BSF screws should be used for the rev clock fitting.

SOHC Ribbed Outer Timing Cover - With Rev Clock Boss (Magnesium)

Product no.: 0322 1X04(RM)

This is the rarest of all timing covers - the pre 1938 'Ribbed' type outer timing cover, but made in magnesium. As far as I am aware, there were only a couple of these covers made, for the 1937'ish Big Plunger Works race bike. As I was already having made the ribbed rev clock cover, I could not resist having just a few made in magnesium As with the alloiy versions, these covers are copied from an original and look exactly the same. So, if you want to give your pre-war cammy that most exclusive look - they do not come much rarer than this! Note: in the photos these covers look slightly wet. This is the protective water repellent oil I spray them in before placing them in a plastic sealable bag. 3\16" BSF screws should be used for the rev clock fitting.

Update Jan 2016: Sorry, these have all sold out again. Please email sales@racingvincent.co.uk for an update of when they will next be available (but it is not likely we will make them again until the latter part of 2016)

Note: we do still have a couple of sets of matched magnesium inner timing cases to Aluminium outer timing cases (the matched pairs cannot be split as they are linished as a pair). Although not using magnesium outer covers, this spec was the standard production Manx pairing

Rev Clock Gearbox 1:1

Product no.: 0338 A11M\546_1
This is a 1:1 rev clock gearbox that can be fitted to any of my outer timing covers. Unfortunately I have not been able to find anyone yet manufacturing the bronze cast type that would have been originally fitted to Norton's in the 1930's-40's, but this is of a very similar design, and was of the type that were commonly fitted to competition bikes from the 1950's. It does however have the correct angle of output and I believe the 1:1 ratio was the ratio originally fitted to pre-war Norton's - but you will need to check your rev-clock Please note - I also stock the 2:1 type gearbox and might be able to get the opposite rotation by special order

Norton 15 Tooth Magneto Sprocket - Engine Side

Product no.: 0391 A2/79

This item is the 15 tooth engine sprocket that drives the chain to the magneto sprocket, it fits on the end of the oil pump drive gear. These items are just the same in profile as original sprockets - the engine side sprocket being a flat profile sprocket, (while the magneto side sprocket is recessed), just as per originals. These sprockets are well made and (unlike some other patterns) are also heat treated to make them longer lasting. Note: the only deviation from original, is that this sprocket does not have a slot for a woodruff key, while the originals did. This slot was superfluous on the original design, and is actually more hindrance than help - as the woodruff key, if used, can often interfere with the taper fit, making the bond less secure. Note: Fitting magneto sprockets - it is always best when fitting sprockets, to smear some fine grinding paste on the taper fit of the sprocket and gently grind the sprocket to the taper, to get a perfect fit. This is achieved when you have got a matt grey finish on both sprocket and taper. Ensure you fully remove the grinding paste before final fitting. Always use a 'puller' to remove the sprocket, do not try to lever the sprocket off with a screwdriver, as this will almost certainly damage the timing case. A tip when using puller's to remove sprockets - fit puller and screw central bolt until a good tension is reached, then give the end of the puller bolt a sharp sideways tap with a mallet - the jarring will easily loosen the sprocket

Norton 15 Tooth Magneto Sprocket - Magneto Side

Product no.: 0392 A11/112

This item is the 15 tooth magneto sprocket that is driven by the chain from the oil pump gear sprocket, and fits on the end of the magneto shaft (either Lucas Magdyno or BTH KD1). These sprockets are well made and (unlike some other patterns) are also heat treated to make them longer lasting. Magneto Chain + Soft Link (46 Link)

Product no.: 0393 A11/113

Genuine Renolds magneto chain and one soft link, to fit SOHC 500cc and later 350cc engines. Note, these chains should use a riveted (soft link), not a circlip link. I supply each chain with the proper (expensive! soft link) They are extremely fiddly and time consuming to rivet this soft link over, and can sometimes result in a tight spot that has to be 'eased'. Because of this I supply the soft link ready to fit, but do not fit it, as it often marks the chain - then you would think it was second hand!

Magneto Chain Soft (Rivetable) Link

Product no.: 0394 A11/113R
This item is a Renolds 'soft' link to fit a magneto chain. This type of rivetable link is always preferable to a 'split' type link and would have been fitted orignally. These can be fiddly to fit, but the normal process is to fit the soft link, ensuring the back plate of the soft link is resting against a firm metal surface, then use a punch and small hammer to peen the end of the soft link pins so that the outer plate cannot come off. The end of these pins are unhardened for this purpose. It is not unusual to find that once this has been done the result is this link becomes a 'tight' spot on the chain, in which case give it may required slight tweaking and movement to restore full movement. Each chain comes supplied with a soft link, but if you feel you have damaged the link supplied (i.e. hit it too hard with the hammer!), then I also supply these spare links seperately here. These links are high quality 'Renolds' make.

Magneto Chain Link and Half

Product no.: 0432 A11/113H
First and foremost i would say it is not recommended to fit a half link (or link and a half as it actually is), but I know that on some rare occasions you may have an unusual timing covers where the chain can either be too slack/tight with standard links. Therefore this item is for a Reynolds link and a half

SOHC Inner Timing Case Oil Drive Spindle Bush

Product no.: 0459 A11/38

This is the phosphor bronze bush fitted to all SOHC inner timing cases, which is the bearing for the oil drive gear. These bearings are often badly worn on original engines - easily identifiable because excess oil will collect in the outer timing case space (the area containing the magneto chain), and is the outer cover is often not fully oil tight - hence it leads to a common oil leak. This bearing is specially made for me with the correct inner scroll, which stops short on one end, so when fitted the oil will not leak out into the outer timing case space. It also has a slight lip on the same end to aid fitting. Comes complete with fitting instructions.

Update 20/01/16:  Please note, a customer recently reported to us that he tried to fit one of these bearings to an original timing cover and found it slid in under light finger pressure - It should need to press in, i.e. an interference fit.  We had these bearings manufactured from an original pattern, but having checked have confirmed that these bearings have an external diameter of 0.6865". His original bearing was 0.688".  Therefore please can we suggest you check your original bearing before purchasing this one  - if your original bearing measures greater than 0.6865" outer diameter - then this bearing will not be a suitable replacement.  Apologies for any inconvenience this causes
