Norton Clutch Plates - Friction (Sureflex)

Product no.: 0253 A2/393

- High quality bonded friction plates, as fitted to all pre-commando type Norton clutch's, including all 30's-50's camshaft Norotns - These are genuine Sureflex plates, probably the best quality clutch plates for Nortons currently available. - The price shown is for one plate. If you are building a Manx clutch you will need 4 plates, while the standard roadgoing clutch was fitted with 5 plates. June 2012: Back in Stock again, but with a big price increase. Sorry, but I can only assume the Euro position is forcing price up from Surflex.

Norton Clutch Plates - Friction (none Sureflex)

Product no.: 0254 A2/393b
These friction clutch plates are the same fitting as the Sureflex plates, but are manufactured by my offshore 'cheap and cheerful' manufacturer (who make lots of clutch plates for all kind of British bikes). As at 2/3/14 I have not tried these myself yet, but they look well made and the friction material is bonded to the plate (as with Sureflex) and looks quite similar to the original Norton friction material in composition. In summary, if you want the best - then go sureflex, but if want to try a cheaper alternative that look to offer good value for money, then try these (I will be doing that myself shortly!)

Square Section Racing Clutch Springs for SOHC and DOHC Manx Norton's - Set of 3

Product no.: 0386 A11M/399
Set of 3 Manx Norton 'square section' clutch springs. At long last I have been able to track down a source of the correct 'square section' spring material (now very difficult to find), and have had a batch of the correct 'Manx' type racing clutch springs made. The reason why the square section is significant, is that the larger cross secton area of a square spring is greater than that of a similar diameter round spring - therefore in simple terms it means that comparatively, the square type springs are stronger than similar length/coil diameter round springs. These springs were more commonly fitted to DOHC Manx Nortons (I have them fitted to my Doubleknocker), but are also suitable for SOHC M30 (Manx) Nortons and International's and should provide that extra bit of insurance against clutch slip. These springs are slightly shorter than 0386, as a customer with a later DOHC Manx told me his clutch were fitted with this length of spring, but using shouldered centre tightening bolts. These standard length springs have an un-tensioned length of 1.850" (46.9mm). If you are using a later Manx clutch and think you might need a shorter spring, we also sell these (item 0387) which are 1.650" length

Square Section Racing Clutch Springs for SOHC/DOHC Manx Norton's (Short) - Set of 3

Product no.: 0387 A11M/399S
Set of 3 Manx Norton 'square section' clutch springs - but slightly shorter than Item 0386. These shorter springs have an un-tensioned length of 1.650" (41.9mm), instead of the normal spring length of 1.850" (46.9mm). I would suggest if you do not have an original spring as a pattern (round or square), then purchase the longer spring first

Norton Gearbox - Gearchange Return Spring for Selector Mechanism

Product no.: 0384 A2/410
This spring is is the main return spring that fits in the gearbox selector mechanism, and it is the wear of this spring over years of use that causes it to eventually causes it to lose it's tension - which then results in changing gear becoming more haphazard and less direct. As always, this spring was copied from an original pattern in very good condition. Fitting it is a relatively simple exercise - remove the end cover to reveal the selector mechanism, then undo the two nuts holding the Return Spring Cover Plate, which allows the removal and replacement of the old spring. This spring fits both upright pre-war gearbox's, post-war upright gearbox's and laydown pre-AMC Norton gearbox's

Norton Gearbox Kickstarter Spring

Product no.: 0385 A2/367
As with the gearbox Return spring, this kickstarter spring is commonly worn on Norton gearbox's - often identifiable by the kickstarter moving backwards by its own accord on takeoff from standstill. As with the Return Spring, a good quality original Norton spring was used as a pattern, and it should fit both Upright and Laydown (pre AMC) gearbox'sAs always, this spring was copied from an original pattern in very good condition. Fitting it is a relatively simple exercise - remove the end cover to reveal the selector mechanism, then undo the two nuts holding the Return Spring Cover Plate, which allows the removal and replacement of the old spring. Norton Gearbox Mainshaft End Shim

Product no.: 0405 A2/324S
0.020" Shim washer to fit on gearbox cover end of the mainshaft, if you have excessive end float. Note: always check the other gears for faults first, and particularly look to see if the bronze thrust washer that fits on the mainshaft up against the sleeve gear is excessively worn - as this can also result in excessive end float (I will be supplying the bronze thrust washer shortly). This shim will also fit the layshaft endcover end on Manx gearbox's.

Dolls Head Gearbox - Gear Indicator

Upright Gearbox Clutch Worm Lever Arm and Bolt

Product no.: 0418 A2/377+378
This is a faithful reproduction of the Clutch Worm Lever Arm and the special 'reduced head' bolt that is fitted to all Norton upright gearbox's from early 1930's to 1950. It slides over the the eccentric worm spindle and can be adjusted then locked to maintain the correct tension of the clutch lever cable. Both the arm and the special reduced head bolt are faithful copies of the original Norton items, and if I say so myself look really nice quality. The casting is a 'Lost Wax' casting, the patterns been copied from an original arm - lost wax giving a finer finish than a sand casting (but more expensive to reproduce). The reduced head bolt is also identical, and matched to the arm, including the shouldered face that matchs the coutersink in the arm. The only variation from original is that they are both manufactured in stainless steel, with the arm having a satin finish similar to an original. They are the finishing touch to a pre-war Norton gearbox restoration (and look great when also fitted with our stainless end nuts) - particularly as originals are now getting extremely hard to find. The second photograph shows an original arm fitted to a Manx gearbox, so you can see that ours are identical! (note the same arm is also employed on the SOHC exhaust lifter, although Norton gave them a different reference number!). Sorry they are not cheap, but the price reflects the high cost of having patterns made for casting the arm and the expense of lost wax castings

Norton AMC Type Gear Lever

Product no.: 0421 D12/406b

Nice reproduction of the AMC type Norton (short gear lever). This was fitted to the later (approx. 58 onwards) AMC type gearbox, that followed, the Kidney style (flat type) Norton gearbox.
