Product no.: 0008 BS001
- All of the above, with studs, nuts and washers for both top and bottom bevel housings. Comprising 8 studs, 8 nuts and 8 reduced head washers. - Slightly cheaper when bought as a set. - Note: this set is supplied with stainless spring washers, these have the same width as reduced head washers and are indistinguishable when tightened down. Vertical Bevel Housings :5/16" Studs

Product no.: 0009 A11/783
- 5/16" Cycle Studs, fitted to both crankcase and cambox to retain Bevel Castings, 4 required per bevel casting. Manufactured just as per original, except in Stainless Steel. Note: As per originals, one end of these has a fractionally longer length of thread than the other. Over the years Nortons' manufactured the vertical bevel casting with different flange widths, that meant the studs can sit at slightly different heights in relation to where the reduced head nut sits when fully tightened. These studs are made with the widest normal flange in mind (i.e. so the nut should always have full thread contact with the stud - but as each end has a slightly different length, you can try both ways and one of them should work out about right!

Vertical Bevel Housings :5/16" Reduced Head Nuts

Product no.: 0010 E3231

Thin Width Gearbox and Bevel Stud Spring Washers - 5/16" (per 20)

Product no.: 0102 SW002
Used on upright Norton gearbox's, these stainless steel thin width spring washers fit under the blind nut on the front gearbox cover. When locked down, they also look identical to the original 'thin width' washers fitted under bevel casting (reduced head) nuts. They are slightly slimmer than standard 5/16" spring washers. They also have the advantage that being a spring washer, if you have not got the perfect spanner for the rear bevel nuts (which are partly obscured), this spring washer should give you more chance of ensuring the rear nuts do not loosen fully off. Sold as pack of 20 here. These washers are also standard fitment in the BS001 Bevel Stud/Nut set. (Note: we also sell normal width 5/16" washers for normal application - Item number 0509

Vertical Shaft - Top Bevel Steel Cup

Product no.: 0350 A11/757
These are the distinctive press steel bevel cups, which are now very difficult to find and always seem to be missing when building up a new engine. I have had these specially made and as always, original Norton items were used as patterns and these are identical in dimensions. They are very nicely made and supplied cadmium plated - although that should not be necessary if your oil supply is working properly! These items fit between the bevel ball bearing and the large gland nut. They ensure the bearing does not go 'walkies' on its own

SOHC Lower Vertical Shaft Bevel Gear

Product no.: 0421 A11/751
This is the lower vertical bevel gear, fitted to all SOHC International and Manx engines and also fitted to earlier DOHC Manx engines. These gears have been faithfully reproduced using original Norton gears as the pattern and are identical in all dimensions, including the tooth profile, so they can be used in conjunction with original crankshaft bevel gears if you already have one of these. They are manufactured for me by a specialist helical gear manufacturer in the UK and are very high quality. Photograph 1 shows the gear from different angles. Photograph 2 shows an original Norton gear on the left, and our gear on the right, as a comparison. Photograph 3 shows the gear fitted to one of our lower bevel gear housings. The gear has our PVN branding etched on the shaft. Note: 17/11 - we will shortly be offering Oldham couplings and upper bevel gears as well

SOHC Mainshaft Bevel Gear - International Engines

Product no.: 0422 A11/748
This is the crankshaft bevel gear, fitted to all SOHC International and CS1 engines. These gears have been faithfully reproduced using original Norton gears as the pattern and are identical in all dimensions, including the tooth profile, so they can be used in conjunction with original lower vertical bevel gears if you already have one of these. They are manufactured for me by a specialist helical gear manufacturer in the UK and are very high quality. Photograph 1 shows the gear from front and rear. Photograph 2 shows an original Norton gear at the top of the photograph and our gears underneath. Photograph 3 shows the International bevel gear on the left, with the shallower SOHC Manx gear on the right. The International gear was fitted to all Aluminium crankcase engines. SOHC Mainshaft Bevel Gear - Manx Engines

Product no.: 0423 A11M/748
This is the crankshaft bevel gear, fitted to SOHC (and early DOHC) Manx engines. It is identical to the International gear, other than the shoulder at the rear of the gear is narrower, as the Manx timing side crankcase is fitted with a wider double row bearing. The Manx gear is fitted to magnesium crankcase engines. The gear has PVN branding etched on the rear. Note: 17/11 - we will shortly be offering Oldham couplings and upper bevel gears as well

Vertical Shaft Top or Bottom Bevel Collar

Product no.: 0460 A11/754

This is the steel collar that fits over the shaft at the end of the top or bottom bevel, its purpose being to contain the Oldham Coupling that fits into the tang at the end of the bevel gear shaft. Ideally the collar should be a 'nip' fit over the shaft, where it is lightly tapped on (I use an alloy drift with hammer, with the bevel gear bottom face sitting on an alloy/wood block). For the lower bevel gear this also seems to serve a second function, in that it stops the lower bevel gear dropping through gravity onto the crankshaft bevel gear. Not sure if this was Norton's original intention (or actually if it makes any significant difference!), but for this reason, I always try and make the collar a nip fit on the shaft. Because there seems to have been a considerable variation of SOHC Bevel Gear shaft diameter variation (i have seen up to 1.5 thou variation on the quite considerable number of gears I have measured - even unworn shafts) we have made these collars to be a good fit over the bevel gears we manufacture - which we believe to be the most correct diameter - i.e. a nominal 0.7485" - 0.749". If the collar is not an ideal fit over your own gear:- if too tight - you can carefully 'flapwheel' the inside diameter of the collar, until it taps on, or, if too lose - use a small quantity of 'Bearing Fit' to retain the collar. Note: we also sell a one thou undersize collar (Item 0470), so if you have an original bevel gear and you think the shaft diameter is less than above, then probably best to go for item 0470 (or buy one of each . . . and you can have a choice!)

Vertical Shaft Top or Bottom Bevel Collar - Undersize 1 Thou

Product no.: 0470 A11/754_US
This is the steel collar that fits over the shaft at the end of the top or bottom bevel, its purpose being to contain the Oldham Coupling that fits into the tang at the end of the bevel gear shaft. Because there seems to have been a considerable variation of SOHC Bevel Gear shaft diameter variation (i have seen up to 1.5 thou variation on the quite considerable number of gears I have measured - even unworn shafts). This particular item is an alternative to item 0460, it being approximately one (1) thousandth of an inch tighter on the shaft than 0460 - i..e. ideal for bevel gears with a nominal diameter of 0.7475" - 0.748" or less. if the collar is too tight - you can carefully 'flapwheel' the inside diameter of the collar, until it taps on, or, if too lose - use a small quantity of 'Bearing Fit' to retain the collar. Note: If you think your shaft is a greater diameter than above, then item 0460 may be better - or if unsure buy one of each!
