This is a high quality facsimile of the original Norton 1931-32 Spare Parts Catalog, but printed in A4 format. The main spare parts list covers SOHC (Arthur Carroll design) and OHV ES2 models, but many cycle parts listed are the same for all models (see listing for more detail on this).

We print these pre-war catalogs in larger format as they did not use 'Exploded' diagrams - therefore A4 format makes the pictures much easier to see.  All else as per original - see detail information for more information.

This is a particularly rare catalog - and to my knowledge is the very first catalog to show details of the 'Arthur Carroll' type SOHC engine design - which went on in later years to become the Norton International and eventually Manx Norton.  What makes this catalog so interesting is that it details the very earliest SOHC cambox design, identifiable by having a more 'rounded' front bevel cover design than the later cambox design that replaced it the following year.

To my knowledge, this is also the last Norton Spare PArts Catalog that showed the '3 tube' Rear stay frame, and of course, Sturmey Archer gearbox fitted to SOHC and ES2 models (prior to the Norton design that followed in 1934).

This facsimile has been faithfully coped from a genuine 1931-32 Norton Spare Parts List, that can be seen in the picture - and as you can see, we have even replicated the cover of the cover, as well as smaller details like the original phone lines of that period and printer details on rear cover!.  This is then only original copy of this rare edition I have ever seen, and although it was in very good original condition (and fetch premium prices at auction) - as we do with all our facsimile Norton literature - we have gone to great efforts to remove any defects (i.e. thumb prints or staining) before printing the final copy.

Also, as with all our Pre-War facimile Spart Parts Lists - we have produced these on high quality paper/card, in duplex, as per original - but we have produced them in a larger 'A4' format.  We do this because pre-war, Norton's had not started using 'exploded' diagrams, instead showing all parts as a tiny picture.  By magnifying these pictures to A4 size it makes those pictures far easier to read.

As a final point - I personally find these early Spare Parts Lists fascinating and a good read in themselves.  As well as showing rare optional features such as legshields or original mudguard profiles - comparing the pictures and part numbers with later editions of the parts lists give a great insight in to how the single cylinder models evolved.

Note that this spare parts calalog says on the cover it covers 'CS1 and ES2 models.  However on the inner front page it also mentions Model 30 and Model 40 models.  It does not however cover the Side Valve models (and although it covers ES2 OHV, it does not specifically mention differces between that and the Model 18).  It is worth pointing out though that for this year I have never seen a Spare Parts List for the SV/Mod 18 models (unlike the earlier 1928/29 editions, where there were definitely 2 different catalogs).  By the time of the next spare parts catalog I am aware of (1934), Norton's had amalgameted all single cylinder models into a single Spare Parts catalog (see our Facsimile section for all types we offer - although we have some pre-war mainitenance and Roadholder editions we are yet to offer)

Catalogs of these early models are very rare, but this is a particularly nice reproduction - with all marks and wear from the original carefully removed from the original Norton catalog, which was used as the basis for this reproduction (and can be seen in the listing photographs). This reproduction also includes the even more hard to find 4 page supplement provided with later copies, that covers OHV models subsequent to 1929 - Models 18.19,21 and 24 for OHV and 1, 2, 14 and 16H for SV.  This supplement is normally missing or was not supplied with the main catalog (in fact I bought a second and expensive copy of the original some years after the first - just to check, as my first version did not have it).

The supplement is provided as a sepeate 4 page pullout, just as the original was, but again in A4 and with any wear and oily marks to it carefully removed.

The catalog is 31 pages (with picture plates) + 4 additional supplement pages, and as an aside, is an interesting read in its own right - particularly as it shows good quality pictures of these early models, including variations, which allows you to compare parts with the later models and see how the single cylinder machines evolved.

Note: it seems that Norton produced two Spare Parts Catalogs for this period - one version covering the 'Standard' type OHV and SV machines, and a second catalog covering the 'Sports/Racing' CS1 (Walter Moore) SOHC engine and ES2 (sports type) OHV moels - the SOHC model having just been introduced at the time - this catalog is the one covering the CS1/ES2 models.

I am fortunate to have original copies for each catalogs and have reproduced both.  the SV/OHV catalog is Item 0893.  If you do not wish to purchase both - but are not sure which catalog will cover your own machine:  The CS1/ES2 catalog covers mainly the sports/racing parts of that period - i.e. SOHC Walter Moore engine in full detail, Webb Forks only, 3 tube full cradle frame and sportier tanks and fittings for the CS1/ES2 models.  The tandard roadgoing OHV/SV models, i.e. open frame and slightly different oil tanks, carbs, magnetos, leg shields etc.

Having compared both catalogs back to back, there is a small amount of overlap - but overall it is suprising how many parts (including part numbers) are different between the two model ranges.

As an incentive to anyone unsure which to order - if both catalogs are ordered at the same time we will offer a £3 discount on the total price of both catalogs - please remind Steph of this at the time you place the order!

Pre-War Facsimile Catalogs: Additional Information

We print these pre-war catalogs in larger format as they did not use 'Exploded' diagrams - therefore A4 format makes the pictures much easier to see.  All else as per original - see detail information for more information.

As with all the facsimile catalogs we produce, much effort has been taken to remove any defects from the original copy - i.e. smudge marks, finger prints etc, and as you can see from the photographs, the overall yellow fading that is prevelent in most original pre-war catalogs has been removed - resulting in a high quality reproduction with all the original parts numbers, artwork and descriptions easily legible.

However, while the original Spare Parts Catalogs were printed in an approximate A5 format (i.e. 8 3/4" tall by 5 3/4" wide) format, we produce these facsimile's in A4 format (i.e. 11 3/4" tall by 8 1/4" wide).  We do this because pre-war catalogs had not started to use the now common concept of an 'exploded' diagram.  Instead every item was shown as a very small picture on its own (see pictures listed with this item to see what we mean).  We have found that from a restorer's perspective - enlarging these diagrams to A4 format makes them much clearer to identify than looking at the picture in the original format with a magnifying glass!

It is printed on high quality 100gm branded Xerox paper/card on a commercial quality printer. The cover is card, of similar quality to the original - with the colour also similar to the original year.  You may find other cheaper reproductions on Ebay, but I doubt they will be the same quality as ours and have the time spent cleaning them up from the originals as ours have - which is reflected in the price

Norton 1934 Spare Parts List : All Single Cylinder Models - A4 (large) Facsimile

This is a facsimile copy of the Norton 1934 Spare Parts List and is invaluable for any owner of a 1934 Norton model (or actually any pre-war model of similar type - as many part numbers stayed unchanged until postwar) as it lists and shows a small picture of almost every part for that year.

This facsimile is enlarged from the original A5 format to A4 to make it clearer to see.

If you are familiar with the Norton spare parts catalogs of the 1930's you will know they are of a very different format to the later 'exploded diagrams' used by Norton's post war (and most other manufacturers as well).

The pre-war format consisted of a 'photograph like' picture of each individual item, many of these pictures being so small and badly printed that they are very difficult to view. The original size for these catalogs was A5 format. - Because of this difficulty to view clearly the catalog in its original format, I have reproduced this pre-war catalog in a much clearer and easier to view A4 size, which is considerably larger than the orginal.

Added to this, I have made some effort to enhance the clarity of the items so I think they are of more use to the restorer now. However, the cover, layout and content are exactly as per original - These are high quality facsimile's printed on a commercial quality printer using the best quality named brand paper and a card cover of similar quality to the original.

A fascinating insight into the Norton range of early 1930's (and many SOHC parts shown continued until the end of production!)

Norton 1937-38 Spare Parts List : All Single Cylinder Models - A4 Facsimile

Product no.: 0890 WKM018

In stock

£18.00
Recommended Retail Price, plus delivery

This is a high quality facsimile of the original Norton 1937 Spare Parts Catalog, but printed in A4 format.

We print these pre-war catalogs in larger format as they did not use 'Exploded' diagrams - therefore A4 format makes the pictures much easier to see.  All else as per original.

The cover is card, of similar quality to the original - with the colour also similar to the original year, as you can see in the photo's the original cover has badly faded.

Original Pre-War Norton Spare parts list are now very rare, but are extremely useful to the Norton restorer (for all Norton singles in the model range for that year), as it allows you to get a good indication of what part variations were fitted that year, and compare to similar catalogs from other years

Note: many of the parts listed pre-war (i.e. for SOHC and OHV/SV models) carried forward into the post-war period and can be seen listed in the 1948 Spare Parts Catalog - which we have always used as our default catalog for part numbers.  As a rule, if a part carried through into the postwar period, we will give it its postwar designate (i.e. A11/142) in our part number description, but if only manufactured pre-war we will normally give it its 4 digit pre-war part number (i.e. 9644)

Norton 1939 WD 16H Spare Parts List - A4 (Large) Facsimile

Product no.: 0234 WKM010

In stock

£16.00
Recommended Retail Price, plus delivery

This is a high quality facsimile of the 1938-39 ('ish) WD 16H Spare Parts list and is very useful if you are restoring a WD 16H or pre-war sidevalve Norton. However, many parts are also interchangeable with other pre-war road models, i.e Model 18 and Model 50, so many of the parts shown are the same.

As with other pre-war Spare Parts facsimile's, we have purposefully reproduced this catalog in A4 format, rather than the original A5 format. This is because pre-war Norton parts catalogs did not use exploded diagrams. Instead it showed every item individually. These small pictures are very useful (being almost like a photograph), but are very diffcult to see in normal format - therefore we have enlarged to double normal size which makes the catalog far more useful as a reference tool.

Also, many of the original blemishes and inevitable marks found on original catalogs have been carefully removed, otherwise, it is identical to the original catalog. Printed using high quality Xerox 100gm paper and card cover.

Note: as an interesting aside, the original catalog used here had a small addendum note glued into the inside front page - stating a 10% price increase on all bikes after 1937!, we have included this note in the facsimile copy

Norton 1950 Spare Parts List (All Single Cylinder Models - Inc 1st DOHC Engine) - Each

Product no.: 1152 WKM026

In stock

£17.00
Recommended Retail Price, plus delivery

- This listing is for a high quality A5 Facsimile of the 1950 Norton Spare Part List - quite a rare year, in that it is similar to the definitive 1948 Spare Parts list (our Item 0230 . . . and the definitive catalog we use for referencing many of our parts), but wtih a number of minor changes - and the very important addition of the first DOHC (Manx) cambox and conical hus.  Reproduced from an original catalog in high quality A5 format.

This catalog is a faitful reproduction of the original - and the same size (although for some reason, the original 1950 catalog was slightly taller than A5 format .. . a paper size no longer avaiable - but also unnecessary, as it was just a taller blank top and bottom margin -our facsimile is printed on high quality double sided A5 format, but with less blank space on the top and bottom borders, as per our 1948 Spare parts catalog).

As always with our facsimile literature, this spare parts list is faithfully replicated from an original 1950 list in very good condition (including the inner first page - which has a red coloured Norton sticker placed over it, advertising a small price increase for 1951!), and has all marks/fingerprints etc carefully removed.

The 1950 catalog on first impression is extremely similar to the 1948 Spare Parts List (which we always recommend regular customers should obtain a copy of - because we use the origtinal part numbers in that year to reference many of our own parts) - however, on closer inspection, there are lots of minor differences in the 1950 addition - which also includes the addition of the first 'Laydown' gearbox, conical Manx Norton hubs, slightly amended front fork detail and differences to petrol tanks etc.  Also for the first time (and possibly only time - as I never saw later DOHC cambox's listed in subsequent spare parts list), this spare parts catalog shows an exploded diagram of the first 'Longstroke' DOHC cambox, as fitted to the 1950 Gardengate Manx Norton, alongside the SOHC cambox which continued to be fitted to International models until 1955.

This catalog is 78 pages in total, and as always with these catalogs provides useful and interesting reaading.

Price is Each.

Norton 1955 Spare Parts List - ES2, Model 19 (Spring) & 19R (Rigid) Models:: A4 Facsimile - Each

Product no.: 1181 WKM029

In stock

£17.00
Recommended Retail Price, plus delivery

This listing is for a high quality A4 Format facsimile of the 1955 Norton Spare Parts Catalog for the single cylinder ES2 and Model 19 Swinging Arm (pre-Featherbed) and Model 19 Rigid Framed models.  It is reproduced from a very nice condition original catalog - with all bemishshes removed, and is in A4 format - fractionially larger than the original Norton format, making it very easy to read.

Price is Each.

As with all our facsimile Norton catalogs - this catalog is copied from an original Norton catalog, but has had much careful work to remove unsightly blemishes and marks - so it looks particularly crisp and clean.  Interestingly - with this particular catalog - the original red card front cover had a dealers sticker over it, stating a 15% price increase, but then a further typed increase.  Finally that has been crossed out and someone has hand written - to see the Master Price List!  I suspect this particular catalog may have been a Dealers copy - but it added an interesting insite to how this period of catalog may have been current for more than one year (I dont believe they printed a seperate 1956 Spare Parts List for these models) - and Norton used to send them out with price increase stickers on them! - Therfore we have left the sticker and the writing on the cover for this reason.

As far as models were concerned: this Spare Parts List covers the single cylinder 'Swinging Arm' (pre-Featherbed chassis) 500cc ES2 and  600cc Model 19 models.  It also covers the last 'Rigid' framed model that Norton made - the Model 19R (which I think at that time was being offered almost exclusively as a sidecar tug).  Both chassis types by this time were using the 'Laydown' type Norton gearbox, which meant the chassis both had the different rear frame plates and lugs that were required when using this laydown gearbox (the previous 1948 and 1950 Spare Parts catalogs both showed chassis intended for Norton upgright gearbox)  It also shows some interesting smaller details - like pictures of the original Norton sidestands offered at the time.

The original catalog (shown in one of the photos alongside our facsimile) was offered in an unusual paper size - its width being approximately A5, but it being vertically bigger than A5.  As this paper size is no longer available - we have reproduced this facsimile in full A4 size (slightly bigger than the original) - and this makes it very clear and crisp to read.  We have replicated the original red card cover.

The catalog is 32 pages in total. It is printed in A4 Landscape format on high quality Xerox paper of a similar grade to the original paper, as with all our facsimile catalogs.  It comes in a sealable bag to protect it in storage.

Norton 1934 'The Roadholder' Sales Catalog - Colour Facsimile

Product no.: 0534 WKM016

£19.00

- This is a high quality facsimile of the 1934 edition of 'The Roadholder' sales catalog. It includes a summary of the previous years sporting achievements, and a line drawing of every model in that years range, including all the camshaft models - CS1, CJ, Model 30, Model 40 and Racing International. All 1930's Roadholder catalogs had a predominant colour and for 1934 it was Blue.

These facsimiles are printed on high quality paper, with a black cover - extremely close in size and quality to the original (note: even on original 'Roadholders' some of the fine text accompanying photos was almost illegible! I have also found that the 'Roadholder' motif on the cover is difficult to replicate to the same depth of colour as the original - and i run them through the printer 3 times to do this!).

This particular copy was taken from a very good original which had been given out by 'Marstons of Chester', then a Norton dealership. The Marstons dealers stamp can be seen on some pages, which adds to the charm of this copy

As the normal format of these sales catalogs (by year) was to summarise the previous years sporting achievements in the first half of the catalog, and then provide a page/picture for every model in that years range in the second half of the catalog - as well as being an interesting read in their own right, they are invaluable for anyone restoring a bike from that year.  And for anyone with a passing interest in the 1930's era - I also liked the way the Norton graphics department tried to put an Art Deco look to some of the borders and headings

Please Note:  I am aware these facsimile copies are not cheap, but please bear in mind that as well as the quality of reproduction - the average price I have had to pay for the very rare original copies of pre-war Roadholder catalogs has been between £120 - £200 each, they are very hard to find!
