Norton 1949 Product Range - A3 Size Laminate (Workshop) Poster and Pullout - Pair

Product no.: 1165 WKM027

£9.50
Recommended Retail Price, plus delivery

This listing is for a high quality A3 Size laminated colour poster of the 1949 Norton model range - which is taken from a genuine and rare Norton trade 'Pullout' - which would have been given to potential customers when visiting the dealership in the day.

The poster is very pretty and shows all single cylinder models, it will make a great addition to any 'Mancave' or workshop wall, and because it is laminated - it can be wiped down, useful if you happen to spray 'water repllant' oil all over the workshop, as I do!

We also include a two sided colour copy of the original 'Pullout', again, in A3 format, which is folded along the same seam lines as the original pullout - so you can read this pullout in the format it would have been given to customers (the pullout is supplied in an A5 sealable bag).

Price is for both items - posted in an A3 'Please Do Not Bend' manilla envelope

Background of this poster:  I was given the original version of this poster/pullout many years ago by a dear old Norton friend who had a lovely collection of rare and unusual Norton parts - and I have never seen another copy of it anywhere else - so I know it was very uncommon, and probably very few originals now exist.  The original artwork is wonderful and very evocative of the age.  Added to that - the main poster component of the pullout shows very clear factory drawings of every Single Cylinder model in that years model range,  side by side (including excellent pictures of both the SOHC International and Manx models) - so as well as making a pretty poster . . . it is nice to just look closely as you walk by and compare one model to another.

As it came to me, the original 'pullout' was very fragile with some creases and small tears and had to be opened very carefully.  I have sympathetically restored the electronic version - so the original 'fold' lines and some of the minor creases and marks are still visible - but they only add to the patina of the picture.  Any more serious marks have been removed.  As well as laminated poster, we have also reproduced the entire pullout in A3 format and supplied this in a seperate sealable bag - this shows more evocative artwork and a summary of some of the achievements the factory achieved in the previous year.

The original poster/pullout was printed in a non-standard size slightly larger than A3, then folded - our version is fractionally smaller, so it can be reproduced on good quality commercially available A3 size paper - and then laminated with a nice quality plastic A3 laminate.

As you can see the finished result is a very pretty poster that would look great in the workshop . . . I have already put one up in my workshop (see last photo) and a couple of good mates have also asked for copies!

Unless a customer states otherwise - we will always send this item (i.e the A3 laminated poster, and A5 pullout) together in an A3 'Please Do Not Bend' envelope, seperate to any other parts you may have requested in the same order.  We do this to ensure the best chance that the laminated poster will not get creased and damaged.  Note: we will normally only send the poster by 2nd Class (uninsured) postage (charged at cost) - to keep postage cost to a minimum.  State otherwise when ordering if you require a more expensive service.

£18.00
Recommended Retail Price, plus delivery

This is the definitive post-war Norton International Maintenance and Instruction (i.e. general workshop) Manual, published by Norton Motors (in approximately 1953) - reference numbe P53. This facsimile is in large A4 size and uses best quality white paper, ink and thick green card cover (even has the original Birmingham phone details on the back as per the original!).

It was produced in the early 1950's and the information it gives on stripping and assembling the engine is relevent to all the SOHC engine models.

As well as engine information it contains chassis and electrical sections to cover up to plunger models.

This facsimile is A4 size and uses best quality white paper, ink and thick green card cover (even has the original Birmingham phone details on the back as per the original!), it is not a cheap photocopy like some being sold on the internet. Originals are now starting to fetch silly money on ebay

Full Specification and Tuning Sheets for Original Amal TT, RN and GP Carburetters - Facsimile

Product no.: 0136 WKM003

In stock

£17.00
Recommended Retail Price, plus delivery

This Facsimile is a full and comprehensive catalog, listing good quality reproductions of original Amal specification and tuning sheets for the Amal TT, RN (Remote Needle) and GP competition model carburettors, and also includes a full list of settings for SOHC Norton models when fitted with these models as well as a comprehensive setup guide from period Norton technical guides for these carburettors.

Price is Each

We also include the most common TT/RN carb settings for Norton 350cc and 500cc carbs, as well as some other useful carb tuning information from period Norton and other tuning experts.

Background:

The TT type competition carburettorwas first produced in the 1920's - before Amal was formed, at that time the company was called Amac - and we include a single page exploded view of that early Amac design in this facsimile.  The carburettor was then updated through the years (some pre-war versions being identifiable as they had the sub-model number relating to year stamped on the flange - i.e. TT27 or TT35), before being developed into the RN (Remote Needle) carburettor - used mainly on genuine competition bikes only, such as Manx's and KTT's, before being further developed into the GP carburettor.

We also include one of the first of the Amal TT specification sheets (on which the cover shows the amalgamation of Amacs, Binks and B&B to create Amal), from approximately 1934, which also lists and shows pictures of many of the other carb accessories they were making in the early 1930's.  This being from an original I have in my own collection

This Facsimile brings together copies of many of the original (and rare to find) Amac/Amal Tuning/Spares sheets for these different carburettor types - and as well as giving an interesting chronological account of how they changed - is invaluable for anyone trying to setup these carburettors - as there is a very specific order to do this in for most of the designs.

Then, in the second half of the document we have a section listing the most common settings for TT and RN carbs fitted to Norton SOHC models by year, as well as some common settings for many bikes fitted with Amal competition carbs in the 1950's (from a well known tuning book at the time).

Finally, we also include a section from one of the period (1940's-50's) Norton technical manuals, written by the then Technical Manager for Norton's - Edgar Franks, on how to setup your road Norton SOHC for TT carbs, as well as a section on racing.

As well as being an interesting Facsimile, it contains a wealth of information for anyone who has a bike fitted with either TT, RN or GP carbs.

Printed on high quality A4 paper, with original documents carefully reproduced (and cleaned up if necessary), with a green card cover and Contents section, this facsimile is of circa 50 pages in total.

Norton Singles Wiring Diagrams Doc + Two Lucas/Norton Spare Parts Lists (3 Docs - A4 Format)

Product no.: 1213 WKM027

In stock

£14.00
Recommended Retail Price, plus delivery

This listing is for a bundle of 3 seperate documents relating to the electrical fitment for Norton single cylinder road models from the early 1930's to 1962.  The first document shows a collection of original wiring diagrams for most Norton single cylinder variants, while the other two documents are A4 format facsimiles of Lucas Spare parts lists from the 1950s.  Together these 3 documents should be very useful for any restorer of a Norton single model about to tackle the electrical tasks, or just as a useful read and reference for the future.

Each document is printed on high quality A4 100gsm paper and come bundled together in a sealable plastic bag.

Details of the 3 documents are as follows:

Document 1: Norton Single Cylinder Models Wiring Diagrams - Early 1930's - 1962:

This is a RacingNorton publication giving a chronological list of the different Wiring Diagrams used on Norton singles from the early 1930s to 1962 (A4 format, 14 pages).  It consists of 8 seperate wiring diagrams - covering all the main wiring setups used on Norton models from the early 1930's, through to the last 1959-62 alternator models.  It even includes a particularly rare 'tank top panel' variant from 1939.

Each of these diagrams have been sourced from original period Norton maintenance and workshop publications in my possesion - some of which I have never seen available elsewhere.

As well as the wiring diagrams, we have also included a couple of pages showing period line drawings of various electrical fittings for Norton models - particularly, pictures of both the earlier 3 brush type Lucas Mag/Dyno and the later two brush type, as used in conjunction with the Lucas regulator unit (of which we sell a modern copy, like many of the electrical parts used on Norton models).

As a footnote on this document - like many Norton single enthusiasts, for many years I had made the assumption that there were only a couple of variants on the Norton single cylinder models wiring harness - It was only when I started to look through some of my rarer original Norton documentation when I realised there were so many variants, hence why I thought it useful to put this document together.  If nothing else - I hope you will find it provides an interesting read -showing the slight variations between the different drawings

Document 2: Lucas Spare Parts List for Norton Motorcycles 1956 - Facsimile

This useful 8 page document is an indispensible document to anyone restoring a mid 1950's Norton model - who wants to try and restore their electrical system to as close to original specification as possible.

The inside front cover shows a summary table by model type (i.e. OHV, Twins, SOHC models) - with each component area covered and parts numbers shown, and then each area (i.e. Ammeter, Horn, Horn Push, Magdyno etc) is shown in more detail - with a list of part numbers and variations - which even includes the variants of export models.

Most importantly - this particular Lucas spare parts list includes small but clear pictures of each of the main components fitted to the Norton models for that year - and invaluable visual aid to the restorer (many Lucas spare parts lists are parts numbers only).

This is quite a rare publication - but our version is taken from a particularly nice quality original I have had for many years, with any marks or faults removed (as with all our facsimiles).

Document 3: Norton Section Exerted from the - Lucas Spare Parts List for (all makes) Motorcyles 1936-57 - Facsimile

Again - this document is very useful for any restorer of Norton models - as it lists all the Lucas parts used on all Norton models from 1936-57, broken down into seperate lists by all the main model/variants, and then the different component part variations within each of those lists.

The original document was much larger than the 12 page 'exert' we have reproduced here - and it covered all major motorcycle makes over that 20 year period, that fitted Lucas electrical components - but as I was only able to borrow the document many years ago . . . I scanned the cover and index pages, and the pages that covered all the Norton models - which is what is included here.

Again, another rare and highly useful publication, unfortunately there is only one small picture section (showing a generic page, later in the documents - detailing different Lucas headlamp light switchs) - but the real value of this document is that for any Norton model over that period - it shows what magneto/headlight/switch/horn variants that were fitted to a Norton model type for a particular age range.

FYi for this facsimile - it is intended to cover the Norton model range only (which takes approximately 4 pages of the 12 pages) - but as part of capturing Norton models, it has also captured some Montgomery, New Imperial, OEC, OK Supreme and Panther models!

Final small point on this final document - as I scanned it many years ago - although it is printed on the same high quality paper as all our documents - some of the Lucas parts numbers are slightly faint - but all are legible, you might just need a small magnifying glass to pick some up!

This listing is for all 3 documents supplied together

Norton 1925 Spare Parts List:(All SV & OHV Models) - A4 Facsimile

Product no.: 1150 WKM023

In stock

£18.00
Recommended Retail Price, plus delivery

This is a high quality facsimile of the original Norton 1925 Spare Parts Catalog, but printed in A4 format - to give additional clarity. This has to be rarest of all Norton Spare Parts Lists - and covers all Flat Tank Side Valve models, as well as an additional section covering the very first OHV models - making this an interesting and excellent read, even if you are not lucky enough to own a Flat Tank model!

We print these pre-war catalogs in larger format as they did not use 'Exploded' diagrams - therefore A4 format makes the pictures much easier to see.  We spend a great deal of time preparing these facsimiles, removing any flaws or fingerprints that have appeared over the years of use, so each diagram of parts is clear and legible and like new.

This is an extremely rare catalog, and the very clean original example I am fortunate to own is the only one I have ever seen available.  I may be wrong - but to my knowledge this is the first Norton Spare Parts List produced, and in its 'forward' section it states it covers all models up to 1925.

As well as the Individual pages - which show clearly all chassis and engine parts in a lovely period font,  it also has a page at the end of the picture section which shows a factory picture of each model available in 1925, which in itself is useful to any restorer of a flat tank model.

It is printed on high quality 100gm branded Xerox paper/card on a commercial quality printer. The cover is card, of similar thickness to the original - with the colour also similar to the original year.  You may find other cheaper reproductions on Ebay, but I doubt they will be the same quality as ours and have the time spent cleaning them up from the originals as ours have - which is reflected in the price.

Finally, it should be noted that we also produce the corresponding 'Maintenance Instruction Manual' for models up to 1925 - Item 1151, which is of similar format and design to this spare parts catalog.  However, if both bought together (see Item 1152) - they can be bought together at a small discount.

Even if you do not own a Flat Tank Norton, I would highly recommend this catalog as it makes a really interesting read and gives great insight into those early 1920's models.

Norton 1925 Maintenance Instructions For Touring and Speed Models (ie All Models) - A4 Facsimile

Product no.: 1151 WKM024

In stock

£14.00
Recommended Retail Price, plus delivery

This is a high quality facsimile of a very rare publication - the Maintenance Instructions for Touring and Speed Models from 1925, and it goes alongside our Spare Parts List from the same year - providing useful information for anyone owning or restoring a Flat Tank Norton.

We print these pre-war catalogs in larger format making them easier to read  than the original A5 format - therefore A4 format makes this catalog ures much easier to see.  All else as per original - see detail information for more information.

This facsimile has been faithfully coped from a genuine 1925 maintenance manual - and this (like the corresponding 1925 Norton Spare Parts List - Item 1150) is the only copy of this rare manual I have ever seen - a rare survivor from a bygone age.

This maintenance manual is 32 pages long.  I will admit, it does not have many pictures - being mostly text information, but it does make very interstting reading, and is very much geared to a very different age of motorcycle ownership where regular engine stripdowns and de-coking were a standard part of motorcycle ownership.  Much of the information is still pertinent today though, and is useful for getting a good feel for what is required to run a 'Flat Tank' Norton.

There is also a period and interesting to read chapeter, written by the great Norton Wizard of Speed - D. Rl O'Donovan, entitled 'Hints on Tips on Racing Engines'  As the chapter heading suggests - this section gives some useful tips on tuning Norton engines of that era - including original spark plug types and reference to both the flat tank TT, BRS and BS models.

The maintenance catalog does also include valve timing and ignition timing details - but as may be expected of such an early publication - these are mainly shown in fractions of an inch!

Altogether an interesting read, and re-produced on high quality A4 format, which makes is more easily readable than the original A5 format.

Final point - if wishing to buy this publication alongside the 1925 Spare Parts List (1150), we offer them both together as Item 1152, with a slight discount.

Norton 1928-29 Spare Parts List : OHV and SV Models (With 29 Models Supplement) - A4 Facsimile

Product no.: 0893 WKM020

In stock

£18.00
Recommended Retail Price, plus delivery

This is a high quality facsimile of the original Norton 1928-29 Spare Parts Catalog for OHV (excluding ES2) and SV Models, but printed in A4 format. The main spare parts list covers the roadgoing Model 18, 19, 21 and 24 OHV models and Model 1, 2, 14 and 16H SV models.  It also includes a rare 4 page supplement for final (post 1929) changes to the  'magneto forward of engine' OHV and SV models.

This particular catalog covers the roadgoing/non-sports OHV and Side Valve models for 1928 - 29, but also includes a rare 4 page supplement which includes all the final changes made to the 'magneto forward of crankcase' OHV/SV models subsequent to 1929 (which was shortly superceded by the magneto behind crankcase models that followed into the 1930's).  Just like the original catalog, this 4 page supplement is supplied slipped into the main catalog seperately.

For anyone interested in Norton single cylinder models of the late 1920's into the early 1930's this is an excellent catalog and makes good reading in its own right, with nice clear pictures of every part (expanded to be legible in A4 format) as well as every part number included.  In many years of hunting for rare Norton catalogs, this is the only copy of this particular year/model format I have seen - and if like me, you like looking at the detail of part changes by year for originality purposes, then this particular catalog is fascinating at it seems to cover that transition from the Norton 'flat tank' 1920's era, into the first pannier tank models, in some ways straddling both.

It has clear pictures of all OHV (excluding ES2 - see note below) and Side Valve model parts for that year, but is unusual in that it is the only spare parts catalog I have seen that gives detailed pictures (with all parts shown) of both the Norton Webb forks fitted into the early 1930s and the earlier Druid type forks fitted through the 1920's.  Another interesting feature of this catalog as the frames shown are those fitted to the non-sports models which were still of the type fitted through the 1920's - they being the open cradle type with a casting that held the gearbox by two vertical studs.

The catalog is 24 pages (with picture plates) + 4 additional supplement pages. The card cover is a beige/grey similar to the original cover for this year (the original being a bit grubby) with red lettering.

Note: it seems that Norton produced two Spare Parts Catalogs for this period - this version covering the 'Standard' type OHV and SV machines, and a second catalog covering the 'Sports/Racing' CS1 (Walter Moore) SOHC engine and ES2 (sports type) OHV moels - the SOHC model having just been introduced at the time.

I am fortunate to have original copies for each catalogs and have reproduced both.  the CS1/ES2 catalog is Item 0892.  If you do not wish to purchase both - but are not sure which catalog will cover your own machine:  The CS1/ES2 catalog covers mainly the sports/racing parts of that period - i.e. SOHC Walter Moore engine in full detail, Webb Forks only, 3 tube full cradle frame and sportier tanks and fittings for the CS1/ES2 models.  This listing covers the standard roadgoing OHV/SV models, i.e. open frame and slightly different oil tanks, carbs, magnetos, leg shields etc.

Having compared both catalogs back to back, there is a small amount of overlap - but overall it is suprising how many parts (including part numbers) are different between the two model ranges.

As an incentive to anyone unsure which to order - if both catalogs are ordered at the same time we will offer a £3 discount on the total price of both catalogs - please remind Steph of this at the time you place the order!

Pre-War Facsimile Catalogs: Additional Information

We print these pre-war catalogs in larger format as they did not use 'Exploded' diagrams - therefore A4 format makes the pictures much easier to see.  All else as per original - see detail information for more information.

As with all the facsimile catalogs we produce, much effort has been taken to remove any defects from the original copy - i.e. smudge marks, finger prints etc, and as you can see from the photographs, the overall yellow fading that is prevelent in most original pre-war catalogs has been removed - resulting in a high quality reproduction with all the original parts numbers, artwork and descriptions easily legible.

However, while the original Spare Parts Catalogs were printed in an approximate A5 format (i.e. 8 3/4" tall by 5 3/4" wide) format, we produce these facsimile's in A4 format (i.e. 11 3/4" tall by 8 1/4" wide).  We do this because pre-war catalogs had not started to use the now common concept of an 'exploded' diagram.  Instead every item was shown as a very small picture on its own (see pictures listed with this item to see what we mean).  We have found that from a restorer's perspective - enlarging these diagrams to A4 format makes them much clearer to identify than looking at the picture in the original format with a magnifying glass!

It is printed on high quality 100gm branded Xerox paper/card on a commercial quality printer. The cover is card, of similar quality to the original - with the colour also similar to the original year.  You may find other cheaper reproductions on Ebay, but I doubt they will be the same quality as ours and have the time spent cleaning them up from the originals as ours have - which is reflected in the price

Norton 1928-29 Spare Parts List : Walter Moore CS1 (SOHC) and ES2 (OHV Models) - A4 Facsimile

Product no.: 0892 WKM019

In stock

£18.90
Recommended Retail Price, plus delivery

This is a high quality facsimile of the original Norton 1928-29 Spare Parts Catalog, but printed in A4 format. The main spare parts list covers CS1 (Walter Moore design) SOHC and ES2 OHV models, but includes the rare 4 page supplement for Model 18, 19, 21 and 24 (OHV) and 1,2,14 and 16H (SV) models.

Catalogs of these early models are very rare, but this is a particularly nice reproduction - with all marks and wear from the original carefully removed from the original Norton catalog, which was used as the basis for this reproduction (and can be seen in the listing photographs). This reproduction also includes the even more hard to find 4 page supplement provided with later copies, that covers OHV models subsequent to 1929 - Models 18.19,21 and 24 for OHV and 1, 2, 14 and 16H for SV.  This supplement is normally missing or was not supplied with the main catalog (in fact I bought a second and expensive copy of the original some years after the first - just to check, as my first version did not have it).

The supplement is provided as a sepeate 4 page pullout, just as the original was, but again in A4 and with any wear and oily marks to it carefully removed.

The catalog is 31 pages (with picture plates) + 4 additional supplement pages, and as an aside, is an interesting read in its own right - particularly as it shows good quality pictures of these early models, including variations, which allows you to compare parts with the later models and see how the single cylinder machines evolved.

Note: it seems that Norton produced two Spare Parts Catalogs for this period - one version covering the 'Standard' type OHV and SV machines, and a second catalog covering the 'Sports/Racing' CS1 (Walter Moore) SOHC engine and ES2 (sports type) OHV moels - the SOHC model having just been introduced at the time - this catalog is the one covering the CS1/ES2 models.

I am fortunate to have original copies for each catalogs and have reproduced both.  the SV/OHV catalog is Item 0893. The tandard roadgoing OHV/SV models, i.e. open frame and slightly different oil tanks, carbs, magnetos, leg shields etc.
