These clutch plates, although of the same fitment as the earlier Norton type plain clutch plates (item 0255) are actually of the type sometimes fitted to original Manx Norton models. As you can see - they have slots in them to aid grip and help prevent warping.

Price is Each

The pattern of these clutch plates have been replicated exactly from original Manx clutch plates I have in my possession - I believe that this pattern was devised to slighltly enhance grip but also to reduce the risk of distortion under the additional stress most race bikes give the clutch (or a bit of both).

As well as being fitted to competition clutch's, they will also fit standard roadgoing clutch's.

These plates have inner tongues of 0.290" width, which is the type fitted to most Norton clutch's pre-AMC - but Please check your clutch before ordering, as it is not always obvious which type of clutch plate is fitted (later Norton and Manx clutch's - i.e. AMC type had wider tangs (see our item 0256), and sometimes that later clutch type may have been fitted to an earlier bike. Manx clutch's were normally fitted with 4 plain plates as standard, while road bikes were fitted with 5 plates.

Clutch Drum Slot Radial Diameter: It is also worth noting that the inner clutch drum of some earlier Norton models (I have normally found 1930's and 1940's type to have most variation) seem to have a variation in the diameter of the drum where the plain clutch plates feed on - the upshot of this is that many contempory Norton plain clutch plates are a tight fit on to earlier clutch drums - or might not go on at all.  You will see in the last photos are two original Norton clutch drums we use as patterns for checking.  The inner drum on its own (with the rusty original clutch plate!) is an example of one of these drums - where modern replacement plates (sometimes even Surflex - our Item 0255, widely regarded as the best clutch plate manufacturer).  We ensure the Manx type clutch plates are manufactured so that they will fit all clutch drums - including the earlier type.  If you are unsure - email us for more detail (and note - we do not provide these plates to any other retail outlet, in case you see similar elsewhere).

We lightly linish each clutch plate to remove any burr marks or edges resulting from laser cutting (and and sharp edges from occasional scratchs that are inevitable with large lasercut items) - and as well as being purposeful for a competition clutch, look very unusual and distinctive.

You will see in the photographs, they have been fitted here to an original 1930's racing clutch (which also has 'new old stock' solid Ferodo friction plates fitted) - but should fit all Norton clutch's pre-amc, including road going clutch's if required
