This item is a stainless steel oil/fuel pipe ferrule to fit black rubber style 5/16" BSP pipe - of the type often used on Norton models for cambox pipes, breather pipes or similar.  These are CNC machined from solid stainless bar - to fit over a fuel/oil pipe of up to 15mm OD, as chrome ferThese are CNC machined from solid stainless bar, as chrome ferrules in this size are not easily obtainable.

It should be noted that although 5/16" BSP pipe is a common BSP bore size - the outer diameter of this bore size pipe can vary considerably, and although we sell commercial pipe ferrules that will fit over 5/16" bore pipe with an OD of up to 14mm (Item 0979a), some 5/16" pipe (particularly the black rubber type) can have a bigger outer diameter - therefore we sometimes make small batches of these ferrules - which have an internal bore of 0.599" and can be firmly pushed over fuel/oil pipes of up to 15mm.

We already sell black rubber petrol pipe sets (Items 0121 and 0122), which use nice quality chromed steel 1/4 BSP ferrules to crimp the fuel pipes to the union connectors - however, similar looking (i.e.classic motorcycle type) ferrules for the larger 5/16" BSP style pipe have been unobtainable commercially for many years (to my knowledge) - so for one of my own projects, having not been able to find any suitable commercially available ferrules - I ended up writing the CNC programs to machine these from solid bar stock stainless steel.

The finished job is a very pretty thin walled ferrule, where the final gauge of the steel that covers the 5/16" pipe is comparable to normal chromed steel (1/4 BSP) ferrules.  The internal bore of these ferrules is 0.599"/15.2mm which should be an easy slide fit on most 5/16" bore BSP fuel/oil pipe, but please check before ordering - as the outside diameter of fuel pipes can vary by brand and type (the nominal size referring to the internal bore).

The ferrules are shouldered at one end (as most pipe ferrules are) and have a very pretty, non-rusting finish.

You will need to decide for yourself how you attach them - there are various commercial crimping tools available, as for all ferrules - but again, if using motorcycle type crimping clamps intended for 1/4 BSP, you will need to satisfy yourself they will fit over these ferrules which have an external diameter of 0.620"/15.8mm,  If these are just being used for cosmetic purposes (i.e. on a breather or oil pipe that is already a tight fit over the copper oil pipe the pipe is fitted to) - it is possible to just use some form of silicone sealer to hold it in place and then to centre punch the thin walled ferrule where it will not be visible at the rear, to hold it in place to the rubber pipe.

These are far more expensive that commercially available chrome steel ferrules in other sizes - because of the effort and material required to CNC machine them from solid 0.625" round bar stock . . . but add a nice cosmetic touch if you want to fit period black rubber oil or breather pipes - and want to cover twisted lockwire (whcih is the normal method I use for sealing/securing 5/16" bore pipes) or dont like using modern style non-period connectors, which never seem to look right on a classic restoration
