Terry Style Saddle - Competition/Trials Small Size - With Springs

Product no.: 0680 SmallSaddle1

In stock

£86.00
Recommended Retail Price, plus delivery

Smaller version of the Terry saddle, useful if fitting to a competition bike, trials bike or smaller british road bike.  Comes complete with springs (of side frame mount type).

This saddle is approximately 12.5" long by 13.0" wide at its widest point.

The saddle is of the type I have previously fitted to sprint bikes or trials bikes and looks very period on a sports style bike - or if you just have a small bum!!

Norton Saddle Springs - Original 1930's Pattern (As fitted to International and M30 Models) - Pair

Product no.: 0879 3476

In stock

£33.00
Recommended Retail Price, plus delivery

These are black satin coated barrel shaped saddle springs - of the type seen fitted to many Norton models, particularly competition SOHC (International/M30) models through the 1930's and 1940's.  Price is per pair.  See listing for detail and photographs

There were various saddle springs fitted over the years, but if you look at many of the period 1930's and 1940's photographs of Norton motorcycles - particularly the competition/racing International/M30 models, you will see they were fitted with a distinctive barrel shaped spring, which was often black coated - particularly on competition and Works bikes.  These springs here faithfully replicate that style and shape of spring and are UK manufactured by our main spring manufacturer, so are excellent quality.

The accompanyning period photographs shows a Works Norton from approx 1934, and other plunger framed Works bike from approximately 1938 and another Norton sales catalog picture of a (approx) 1948 production Manx Norton and you can see they are all fitted with saddle springs of the type shown here.

We have also taken time to ensure the bolt holes are a good close fit to the standard 5/16" bore bolts fitted to Norton frames.  The springs come black satin coated and are ready to fit.  They are supplied each packed in grease proof paper and sealed bag to protect from scratching in storage.

We also sell chrome saddle springs from an offshore supplier, and although they provide excellent value for money, we believe these springs are of superior quality and fit to the original Norton springs (and obvioiusly the setup of these springs from a UK manufacturer is reflected in the higher price).

Update 15/5/20:  For those interested, we will shortly be CNC manufacturing the vertical seat pillar assemblies that are often seen fitted to original rigid and plunger racing Manx Nortons under these springs, and allow the final height of the seat to be adjusted.  As always, these will be manufactured in stainless steel and should look nice on all models fitted with the vertical saddle lugs on the frame.

For those customers who have a Norton model fitted with the saddle lugs that come out horizontally - we are considering having a batch of similar springs manufactured, with the longer bottom vertical length and vertical eye at the end - as fitted to these models.  Email us on sales@racingvincent.co.uk if interested to allow us gauge interest.

Pillion Bumpad 1

Product no.: 0302b BUM1

In stock

£51.00
Recommended Retail Price, plus delivery

This is a reproduction rear pillion bumpad of 'generic' type. It is reasonable copy of a period bumpad and can be used either as a pillion pad on rigid/plunger roadgoing Norton's, or as a racing bumpad.

Note: I might in the future consider making the special racing bumpads as fitted to my pre-war Big Plunger Manx Norton . . . July 2019 - I am currently looking into having 1930's 'Racing Type' bum pads manufactured.  These will be UK manufactured in small batch's, so will not be cheap, but email if interested at: sales@racingvincent.co.uk

Norton OHV/Side Valve - Rigid/Plunger Frame 'Rectangular' Type Battery Carrier

Product no.: 1027 E2/586

Not in stock

£53.00
Recommended Retail Price, plus delivery

This is a reasonable copy of the battery carrier that was fitted to OHV and Side-Valve rigid and plunger framed models, that fitted the PU7D size rectangular style upright 6v battery (of type originally supplied by Lucas or Exide) - as was regularly fitted to Norton models from late 1930's to the mid 1950's (and particularly the WD16H miltary model, from which I suspect this carrier has been copied).

These battery carriers are manufactured by one of our offshore suppliers and although they are a reasonable copy of the original item.  However we do not like the hinge bolt as they come to us - we have seen a couple where they have not been riveted properly and have come loose - therefore we check each carrier and replace this with a stainless steel hex head bolt and tiny Nyloc nut and washer (see second photograph)- which is we think a much more satisfactory fitting (however, if the original hinge rivet looks secure . . . we will tape the stainless bolt and nut to the outer frame, and leave you to decide if you wish to fit it . .. we think they look much smarter).  Nnote - if you see similar battery carriers being sold elsewhere - they are not likely to have the same long stainless steel hinge bolt/nut fitted!.

Price is each.  Battery carrier consists of fabricated carrier, with hinged front and a nicely formed top threadedbar (nickel plated) with nicely made period acorn nuts - as per main photo. They come with the the main frame painted - but as with many offshore items, this is only a light coat to protect against rust - and as with all good quality restorations, we would recommend they are rubbed down and additional primer/topcoat are applied before final fitting.

Battery Fitting  As can be seen in the accompanying photographs - we can also supply a reproduction PU7D Lucas battery box (genuine Lucas item), of the correct type originally fitted to this carrier type - Our catalog item no 0577.  This battery carrier is a nice quality modern shell, which can then be fitted inside with either with a normal modern wet or dry gell battery to maintain the look of originality.  We also sell the original rubber tray often fitted under this type of battery (Item 0435), to help protect the battery from vibration.

This listing is for battery carrier only, item 0577 and Item 0435 sold seperately

Norton models fitted:  First of all - although these look visibly similar to the SOHC version of the same battery carrier - they are not SOHC items, they are for OHV and SV models only (the SOHC version has a slightly longer bottom bracket, as the International model had an oil tank that extended past the saddle down tube - so the fabrication extended further outwards to avoid fouling the oil tank), but it should fit most mid 1930's - mid 1950's OHV/SV models. (i.e. pre-swinging arm or Featherbed models).

Update 2021: If customers are interested - we are considering having a small batch of both the SOHC and OHV/SV battery carriers made, of the type that fitted the distinctive 'T-Shape' battery (Norton catalog part A11/586 and A2/586) through the 1930's/40's.  Email us at sales@racingivncent.co.uk if interested, although these will be UK made and price likely to be much higher

Period reprduction Red Reflector, in nice mount. Typical of the type fitted to the bottom of mudguards or rear number plate.

Pre-War Norton International Toolbox

Product no.: 0358 3755

Not in stock

£115.50
Recommended Retail Price, plus delivery

Not an exact replica, but a pretty reasonable copy of the pre-war type Norton toolbox, as fitted to Norton International's (and other pre-war singles).

This version uses a threaded butterfly lever to retain the toolbox flap. Although of relatively cheap and cheerful construction, with a good paintjob it will look very little different to the original, which are now almost impossible to find

Small/Straight 'Norton Type' Grease Nipple and Red Fibre Washer: (Each)

Product no.: 0373 A2/500

In stock

£2.50
Recommended Retail Price, plus delivery

Imperial thread grease nipple of type similar to that originally fitted to Norton frame headstock races, Norton Gardengate rear plunger alloy sliders, and Norton brake pedals, with correct style and finish.  Also comes with correct size red fibre washer.

This listing for a single nipple and washer

These are a good quality UK sourced grease nipple - and most importantly, we obtain specially with the original style 'silver' coloured plating (unlike most modern grease nipples, which are mostly only available  in a gold coloured plating supplied - which looks totally wrong on a British historic motorcycle).  We also supply each grease nipple with our high quality red fibre washer (sold seperately  as Item 0097), which is both very hard and the correct slim diameter - so looks correct when fitted.

These types of small straight nipples were normally fitted on most Norton single cylinder models - commonly on the frame headrace greasing points, girder forks, plunger alloy castings, brake pedals etc, as per photographs.  As many original grease nipples lock up and stop working with age, replacing with these is practical - and is one of those small touches that give your a restoration a nice detail touch
