40 Hole spoke set to fit 21" Front rim using the early type (Single leading shoue) conical type hubs fitted to pre-war racing Interanationals and early (pre 1950) Manx's. (Note: the single sided 7" hub has slightly different dimensions and is a different item we also list).

These are good quality English supplier 9 gauge galvanised spoke and nipple sets. Please note: there is actually 2 sets in the photograph shown, this item is for one full set (40 spokes and nipples).

Spoking arrangement:  In the last photograph you will see a picture of one of my wheels which has the pre-war/early post war conical hub these spokes are intended for, laced to a 21" flanged alloy rim.  In this photograph the longer spokes where they crossover are 10 spokes apart (i.e. there are 9 spoke holes between them).  the shorter spokes are 6 spokes apart where they crossover (i.e. 5 spoke holes imbetween).  Each spoke of same side/same direction is laced 4 spokes apart

40 Hole spoke set to fit 21" Front rim using the 7" single sided (none Conical) type hubs fitted to pre-war road going Internationals' and postwar SOHC/OHV/SV models, prior to the introduction of the 8" brake (i.e. pre 1955).

Please note if you have a Norton road model (i.e SV or OHV) fitted with 19" Rim and the standard post-war type single sided hub, we can also obtain spoke sets for that wheel type - price per set will be similar to this listing, but normal turnaround to have spokes made is 5 weeks.  Email on Sales@racingvincent.co.uk to enquire. 

If you have a pre-war roadgoing CS1, OHV or SV model, then it is likely you will have a front wheel with 19" rim and bolt on left sided hub (onto a 'Cotton Reel' type hub - then email us with your original spoke length and we can also order these (they are similar to our Item 0362 - but spoke offset is likely to be different. 

Background: The 7" single sided hub was fitted both pre and post WWII.  However, genuine pre-war International 7" hubs are identifiable from the post war hub (which was then fitted to all single cylinder models to the mid 1950's), because the prewar Inter version was a single piece hub casting (as per the photograph of my own hub shown here which is from my 1937 road going International).  The post war type had a centre hub riveted to to the brake drum - however the spoke sizes are the same for both

Final Point: This item is very similar to item number 0361 (21" rim and conical type hub), except the brake side spokes are slightly longer for this item, as the 7" single sided flange has a smaller diameter than the early Conical brake flange.

40 Hole spoke set to fit 19" Rear rim and Norton cotton reel hub, as used on all Rigid, Swinging Arm (ES2, Mod50, Dommie) and roadgoing Featherbed International hubs (the type with equal flange diameters. The dimensions are taken from my own wheels.

This listing is for a galvanised spoke set to fit a 19" rim to the Norton 'Cotton Reel' type hub, as fitted to most rigid framed rear wheels, as well as those most commonly fitted to all swinging arm and featherbed (none Manx) models rear wheels, up until the introduction of the full width hub in the late 1950's.  This 3 stud hub was also used on all pre-war non-Inter front wheels, so this spoke set should fit that type of wheel as well, providing you wish to fit it to a 19" rim.  This hub is identified by having equal diameter spoke flanges

However, although the 'Cotton Reel' hub has equal spoke flanges - the original Norton spokes for this type of hub with a 19" rim had slightly different spoke lengths - to allow for the slight offset of the rim, that this type of wheel was always built with (to allow for the brake drum always fitted to this type of hub - wether fitted on the front on pre-war bikes, or rear for pre and postwar rears).  Some Spare Parts list (i.e. the 1937 WD 16H Spare Parts List) may show the spoke length as being equal - but in reality, one side was fractionally longer than the other - Norton's probably cut them on one side once laced to a rim.

We have replicated the lengths of these spokes to the same length as two genuine amd original Norton 'Cotton Reel' Hubs/rims - still fitted with their original Norton spokes, so we know these lengths are definitive for this type of hub.  The longer spoke fits on the non-drum side (i.e. the rim is normally closer to the hub) . . . but you need to adjust the rim to suit the bike model you are fitting it to - the fim should always be centralised in the frame or forks once fitted with all spacers and drum. 

Note: Plunger hubs have flanges of slightly different dimensions - email us if you want spoke sets for this model. These are good quality UK manufactured 9 gauge galvanised spoke and nipple sets.

This listing is for a spoke set to fit a 20" rim to the Norton 'Cotton Reel' type hub (not 19" rim), as fitted to genuine Norton Internationals for rigid framed motorcycles pre-war.  The 'Cotton Reel' hub is identified by having equal diameter spoke flanges  Note: we also sell spoke sets for the same cotton reel hub fitted to the more commone 19" rim - see listing 0362 for that item

This listing is for a spoke set to fit a 20" rim to the Norton 'Cotton Reel' type hub, as fitted to most rigid framed rear wheels - but Internationals and Racing Internationals pre-war were most often fitted with the larger 20" rear wheel.  As Avon are now producing limited quantities of the original 20" SM rear tyre, I am offering the 20" chrome rear rim and if you have the Cotton Reel hub (with equal spoke flanges and 3 stud fixing) then these spokes are the correct length for that configuration.

This hub is identified by having equal diameter spoke flanges - if you have the unequal flange plunger hub, then see listings 0362b/0363b instead.

Norton International's and early Manx's were originally fitted with 20" WM2 rims. This rim type has been obsolete for many years, but recently I was able to obtain a small batch of 20" chrome rims from my supplier. This item is for a 40 Hole spoke set to fit these 20" Rear rim and Norton Plunger hub

This is a 40 Hole stainless steel/buttressed spoke set to fit a 19" Rear rim to the conical Norton (magnesium) rear racing hub, as fitted to all Manx Nortons from 1950 onwards (i.e. late 1950 Gardengate and all Featherbed Manx Nortons). 

Unlike most of our spoke sets - these spokes have a specific head type, with a different angle and abutted spoke style, to fit the special magnesium Norton conical rear hubs - therefore this type of spoke is only available in stainless steel (with nickel plated brass nipples) - hence why more expensive than our normal galvanised spokes (but well worth the extra expense - I have them fitted to my hubs on my 1955 Featherbed Manx and will shortly be fitting them to my 1950 Gardengate conical rear hub).

However - please be aware, these spokes are intended for original Norton conical hubs, I am told by my manufacturer that some more recent reproduction 'Manx lookalike' hubs have different hole patterns  . . . so dont expect these to fit those hubs.  We regret if you buy these for a non-original (Norton) conical hub and try to fit them without checking with us first - and they dont fit, we will not be able to accept returns, sorry.

Imperial thread angled grease nipple of type with angle/finish similar to that originally fitted to Norton wheel hubs, girder fork blades and other areas where the small straight grease nipple did not give easy access.  Also comes with correct size red fibre washer. 

This listing is for a pack of 6 grease nipples and red fibre washers (slightly cheaper than when bought individually)

These are a good quality UK sourced grease nipple - and most importantly, we obtain specially with the original style 'silver' coloured plating (unlike most modern grease nipples, which are mostly only available  in a gold coloured plating supplied - which looks totally wrong on a British historic motorcycle).  We also supply each grease nipple with our high quality red fibre washer (sold seperately  as Item 0097), which is both very hard and the correct slim diameter - so looks correct when fitted.

These types of small straight nipples were normally fitted on most Norton single cylinder models - commonly to wheel hubs and girder fork blades, or other areas where a straight nipple did not give good access, as per photographs.  As many original grease nipples lock up and stop working with age, replacing with these is practical - and is one of those small touches that give your a restoration a nice detail touch
