3a. BTH KD1, Lucas Magneto/MagDyno and Ignition and HT Parts

NGK B7ES Spark Plug to fit all Norton road going single engines, i.e. Model 30/40, OHV ES2/Mod 18/Mod19 and SV 16H/Big4.  It also fits Vincent 500cc and 1000cc models (Series B/C/D).  

I use NGK spark plugs on all my bikes now, I have found them to be the best of all modern plugs for quality and reliability.  The B7ES is equivelant to a Champion N4 and is an alternative to the slightly softer B6ES (item number 0575). You may find your engine runs slighlty better on this grade of plug if you often run at high speeds or your engine runs hot, as this is a slightly harder (colder) plug.

Classic 'Champion' spark plug cap, Type WCX600, with suppressor fitted.  A very popular classic model of HT spark plug cap, fitted to many british bikes in the 50's-60's.   

- NGK modern LB05EMH competition spark plug caps with resistor to protect against RFI interference - Waterproof and probably the best cap you can use if you are using the bike seriously - but not cheap! - I also include the small nylon tie band that NGK have stopped supplying themselves now! This listing is for a bag of 6 small, neutral colour, cable ties - which are very useful for clipping to the rubber boots fitted over magneto advance/retard cables, rubber HT Pickup boots and those spark plug caps which have a rubber end.  Fitting these small cable ties very much helps prevent water sneaking in and affecting the electrics. Price is for a bag of 6 cable ties

These are the split brass washers that are soldered to the end of the HT lead that is screwed into Lucas and other similar magnetos that use screw in HT connections.  Using these washers give a good connection and retains the HT lead as the was.  Price is for pack of 4

Lucas early racing magneto serial plate. These were fitted to very early Lucas KR1 racing magneto's of the late 1920's and early 1930's, as fitted to the earliest CS1's and International engines. Very high quality reproduction plate in etched steel with black enamel infill

Lucas 'Racing Magneto' plate. As fitted to 1940's and 50's road racing NR1 and KVFTT type magnetos. Also fitted to Lucas 2MTT rotating magnet magnetos, as fitted to DOHC Manx Nortons from 1957. Very high quality reproduction plate in etched steel with red enamel infill

This Lucas label, with Red colouring, is very similar to the extremely rare Lucas SR-R label, the racing magneto fitted to DOHC Featherbed Manx in the mid 1950's, prior to the introduction of the 2MTT rotating magnet magneto. In the 2nd photograph here, is my SR-R, with the remains of its original label. I am not sure why the reproduction label has an extra area of blank metal on the left of the label, but I think this will need to be carefully removed to fit into the indent correctly. This is the standard Lucas serial model and number plate, fitted to many Lucas magnetos from the 1930's to the 1960's. This includes the Lucas M01 Magdynos fitted to Norton Internationals and other Norton road models for many years, as well as KVF and K2F magnetos. Lucas Competion version of the Serial Number plate. This was most often seen fitted to K2FC and K1FC magnetos, but can occasionally be seen fitted to other competition and racing magnetos of the '50's and '60's era. High quality reproduction plate in etched steel with red enamel infill

Lucas 'Racing Magneto' plate - in green. This plate was used on racing magnetos of the '50's and '60's era, such as the Lucas NR1, as shown in accompanying photo. High quality reproduction plate in etched steel with green enamel infill

Lucas 'WaderMagneto' plate - in green. This plate was used on the Lucase waterproof magnetos, which were fitted to trials bikes and similar in the '50's and '60's era, Genuine Wader magnetos were quite rare, and I am not sure if the 'Wader' name was used on different body types, but the best known Wader was a variation of the Lucas Mad/Dyno type magneto - M01L, of which a photograph is shown. This is a very high quality replica of the BTH KD1 'TT Magneto' plate, as fitted to the road racing competition version of the KD1 magneto (and most frequently fitted to early Manx Nortons). On competition KD1 magneto's, these labels were fitted on the opposite side to the Serial Number label, unlike the none competition versions, that only had the serial number label. It looks very pretty with a high quality brass finish with red enamel infill. Note, we also sell both original size and oversize rivets, used to fit these plates (see Item 0467/0468/0469)

This is a very high quality replica of the BTH KD1 'Dirt Track Magneto' plate, as fitted most commonly to speedway but also some the road racing competition version of the KD1 magneto (and sometimes fitted to early Manx Nortons). On competition KD1 magneto's, these labels were fitted on the opposite side to the Serial Number label, unlike the none competition versions, that only had the serial number label. Supposedly, the magnetos were identical to the TT version, so it is really just personal preference if you want this label or the 'TT Magneto' version.
