This is the distinctive slotted spacer ring that fits over the camshaft in the tunnel area between the front (bevel gear) chamber and the rear (cam) chamber.

On racing cambox's that employ the centrally fed camshaft oilway, this is no more than a spacer ring, however, for the road going type cambox, which uses a solid camshaft, this spacer ring is very important as oil is fed to the cam chamber along the slot, which allows oil to be fed along the slot from the front bevel area (where the oil feed is) into the cam lobe area - supplying oil to the cam faces.

For this reason, there is a slight lip one one end, to ensure the bush can only be fitted onto the camshaf in one direction.  When assembling the cambox, once the camshaft is fed through the front cambox area bearing, the spacer ring is then fed onto the camshaft from the rear cam cavity side.

Note:  It is not unusual when restoring an old cambox to find the outer face of this slotted ring very badly worn - which can be one of the main causes of major over oiling of the cambox area.  In extreme cases, you may also find that the surrounding alloy cambox casting is also very badly worn here - exasperating the problem.  Replacing the spacer ring with a new one can help lessen the issue (I have not tried it - but assume in extreme wear cases, it may be possible to bore the cambox casting here and shrink in a new alloy sleeve, to restore the close fit that prevents over oiling).
