- English made, good quality steel WM2 20" 40 spoke rim, - which instead of being chromed, is Gloss Black Powder coated, as was common with many British bikes in the 1930's/40's. Black steel rims were also a common fitment to competition bikes before the common adoption of alloy rims - see seperate photo.
This particular rim is the same spacing as chromed item 0292 and has correct spoke spacing to fit both Norton rigid and Gardengate 'cotton reel' hubs.
As many of you know, Internationals pre-war were originally fitted with 20" rims . . . which are now very rare to find . . . but if you want the ultimate original touch to your restoration - then these are them!. You will find tyre choice is very limited - but I suggest try Vintage Tyre who occasionally new stocks of Avon SM 3.50 x 20 Rear tyres, which are perfect for this rim - I have bought them myself, the link is: ttp://www.vintagetyres.com/display.asp?K=20111215_3176_000619&m=74&ds=motorcycle%20tyres&dc=101&sort=sort_size&mw=2&st_01=motorcycle&sf_01=type&sp_01=not&st_02=tube&sf_02=type - and tell them I recommended them! Final point with these black rims - you often see period photographs where the spokes are also painted black (but nipples normally left plated) - to do this yourself, make up a wooden block with drill holes, then place spokes into the holes thread first and they can then be black sprayed all together. I may be able to obtain black spokes - but would be special order
