Cam Rocker Arm Lipped Side Washer

Product no.: 0287 A11/814
For those rocker arms that are fitted with lipped side washers (which is by far the most common type of rocker arm – identifiable by its machined lip on each side of the bearing boss), these lipped washers (termed Steel Cup's in the 1948 catalog) are manufactuerd in hardwearing EN8 steel. These fit over the rocker arm bearing on each side, and provide a flat face for the cork washers to seal against. 4 required per cambox.

Cam Rocker Arm (none lipped) Side Washer

Product no.: 0288 3050
For the earlier type rocker arms - which are identifiable by not having a machined recess to take the later 'lipped washer', I have had a batch of the cam rocker steel washers, that fit between the rocker arms and the cork washers. As well as not having a lip they are also slimmer than the later lipped type (see the second photo - the rocker arms for these type, on the right, do not have a machined recess). Note: These steel washers will not fit the very earliest cam rockers (fitted approx pre-1932) which have a different centre boss diameter These fit over the rocker arm bearing on each side, and provide a flat face for the cork washers to seal against. 4 required per cambox. By the way, it is important with these type to ensure the side walls of the rocker arm are absolutely flat with no burrs, otherwise oil will leak from the rockers more profusely

Cambox Rocker Rubber Pad - Set of 4

Product no.: 0308 A11/815
Cut/planed from hard wearing oil resistent rubber (Nitrile), to the same width and thickness as originals, these are fitted both above and below the rocker arm central boss in all SOHC cambox’s. Along with the cork side washers, it is these being worn that normally results in these cambox’s leaking badly. An original single piece rubber (new old stock from the 1940’s I believe, I bought some many years ago from that great Norton exponent Phil Heath) was used as a template to ensure the correct width. This original type was supplied longer because each one was cut into two, i.e.one rubber for each rocker arm. As shown in the 1948 catalog, I supply two separate ones of similar length, both of which are slightly longer than required, which can be carefully trimmed to your required depth. (They should be trimmed so they protrude just proud of the cambox slot, so the rocker arm has to be forced – carefully, into the cambox). The smooth end should be abutting the rocker boss and your trimmed end opposite.

Camshaft Back Bearing Distance Piece

Product no.: 0329 A11/788
- This is the distance piece that betweens the cams and the cambox back bearing. It ensures the back bearing inner cage and rollers are sititng centrally in the outer bearing (which is located in the cambox rear cover. Note this distance piece is 55 thou thick, which I find to normally be correct, but you should check yourself that this thickness locates the bearing in the correct position, as this can sometimes vary as there were many slight variations over the years. To help with this, place thick high melting point grease in the outer cage of the back bearing, then trial fit the back cover, you can then see from the marks in the grease if the inner race is in the correct position. This distance piece is also supplied as part of the camshaft bevel shim set.

SOHC Camshaft Spacer Ring

Product no.: 0352 A11/798
This is the distinctive slotted spacer ring that fits over the camshaft in the tunnel area between the front (bevel gear) chamber and the rear (cam) chamber. On racing cambox's that employ the centrally fed camshaft oilway, this is no more than a spacer ring, however, for the road going type cambox, which uses a solid camshaft, this spacer ring is very important as oil is fed to the cam chamber along the slot. For this reason, there is a slight lip one one end, to ensure the bush can only be fitted in one direction

SOHC Inlet Guide Lubrication Union and Pipe Set

Product no.: 0353 A11/778+9+80 - I
These are the brass unions that screw into the front bevel gear chamber of the SOHC cambox and feed oil to the valve guides, via the small bore copper pipes. The unions are just as per originals (originals were used as patterns), and this means they are 'sided' with the inlet union having a smaller bore than the exhaust union. The copper pipe is supplied soldered into the nipples (and the nipples only bored after this operation is completed, and full bore checked for throughput - as this soldering process often blocks pipe) and is also slightly longer than required, so it can be gently bent and cut to length to suit the engine. They are sold as a complete set per valve, therefore two (2) sets are required per engine. This description is for an Inlet Valve Guide Set
