This lockring is used on all Norton gearbox's to stop the sprocket nut coming loose and is essential. This type is to fit the recessed gearbox sprockets normally fitted to Norton upright gearboxs and laydown gearboxs to the mid 1950's.

As can be seen the corner of this star shape lock washer is bent up - so it can fit in the normal Norton rececssed gearbox sprocket, where a small slotted screw is then used to retain the lockring to the sprocket.  This is essential with Norton gearboxs - as the main sprocket nut has a left hand thread - one of these is shown fitted into the lockring in the photo (and we sell these LH nuts as well - Item 0801.

We also sell a similar lockring - Item 0272, which is flat and more suitable for the later Norton/AMC flatter Gearbox sprocket (but both can have the 'ear' easily tweaked by retaining the main part of the washer in a vice, and tapping the ear either way with a hammer.

This item is lasercut from an original pattern by ourselves
